you have at least 60 seconds of leeway in my book, if your not doing something productive by then, booting is coming

IMO from the sounds of this boot, it was not justified in any way and appropiate measures should be handed out. Personally I'm sick of this @#(! and I guess that's why I don't play this @#(!ty ass game anymore.

Here is a perfect example of:

Not sending a PM to me
Not noting any information; game id, what server, time -timezone, game name etc. I just spent 15 minutes trying to find this game and gave up. I am not going to manually sort throught 100 games.

Sorry BV, I'll make a point of recording logs and other related info next time.
Or just not bringing it up at all if it doesn't cause an issue such as preventing me from playing the only chance I get to the whole !@$#ing week...

If I felt that I was somehow at fault for this, ie, doing something incredibly stupid, or going against DIRECT orders, then I would totally expect it.
Thing is, I only saw 3-4 chat messages on the top, and none were telling me anything.
I need AT LEAST 15-20 seconds after being accepted to both load the game and get my bearings. Depends on how early in the game it is too.

btw exer, I don't fly circles in home, nor do I make a habit of dog fighting asteroids and trying to ram them dead.

ahh i have been given orders but not booted for not following them as i was asked to pick up a pod but i was in the wrong ship? or at the time did not know the command to do so. I have also noticed i accept a command and then my auto pilot shuts off, and i cannot "retrieve" this command i have accepted.(wot do i do?) would hate to get booted for something like that.

so i ask when i come in game i have 2 choices of ships now as a newbie i know i am to be in a scout(although i do jump into a fighter at times) but if my inv is full how do i pick up a pod?; or does that matter no matter wot the ship is?

Any player-piloted ship can pick up pods. They don't take up cargo room -- when you run into a pod it simply teleports that pilot back to base, and the pod disappears. So yes, you can do that at any time, with any ship, and it is always a Very Good Thing to Do. Simply fly into the pod to do this. It helps if you order the pod to come to you using F3, or select the pilot and press `cs to bring up the "I've got you, hold still!" voice chat, which lets the pilot know you're trying to pick them up, and gives them the option to press 'insert' to auto-pilot to you (look up juckto's "You Suck at Allegiance" thread somewhere in this forum for more on this and other stuff). You can use auto-pilot to pick up pods (target pod, press P) but it will sometimes miss, so doing it manually can be better; sometimes it's also better to simply sit still and let pods come to you. Obviously you can't always do this in the middle of a fight, so you may need to run away and try to lose any pursuit first, if it's possible -- and if it's the right time to do so.

"Retrieving" commands is not possible, but if you simply pay attention to what the command is, it should be easy to figure out what to do. All pressing 'insert' actually does, is say "Affirmative" and (sometimes) engages the auto-pilot to whatever the object of the command was. All the auto-pilot does is fly you towards your target -- that's it. It disengages automatically if you touch your controls, so that's what probably happened to you. You don't actually need this anyway, just fly towards whatever the objective is yourself, and use common sense. So, if the command is to "defend bomber," get a scout with a nan gun, launch, fly to the bomber, and repair it when it takes damage. You don't need to "recall" the command to do that. ^_^

If you're rank 4 or below you actually cannot be booted... And anyway, different commanders have different tolerances, so you won't always be booted just for making a mistake, unless it was a very bad one or a very silly one. But don't worry about it too much, just do your best!

If you are booted, remember you can come back. You can create up to two other accounts ("hiders"), and this is fully within the rules as long as you play on the same computer at first (so all your log in names will be linked, and will have the same score set as your "primary" call sign). So if booted, you can simply log out, log in under a hider, and join the same game, even the same team (or the enemy. ^^)

Also, are you reading the Wiki? Read the Wiki!

Heck, I still have a cheat sheet for the voice chats next to me when I play. >_> You can look into getting one of the player-made chat-packs later, they can make using them more intuitive, or so I hear. ^_^ Anyway, there's just a few important voice chats you should know, like the above-mentioned `cs for pods, "Defend Miners," etc. You don't need to worry about them too much at this point, and you'll never have to worry about *all* of them. :P

FreeBeer wrote:QUOTE (FreeBeer @ Aug 29 2009, 07:57 AM) Now I don't know the circumstances here, so I'm not going to comment on the appropriateness of your response. I do, however, want to point out something that you (and other comms) may not be aware of:

Sometimes, when I join a game, my video card puts me in a black screen of death for about 30 seconds. I see absolutely nothing. If you PM me to do something during that time I have NOT seen it and cannot know that you've issued an order. Now if you see me flying around, then issue an order, that's different. I should have seen the order and complied. All I ask is that folks be aware of the potential graphics issue and wait for confirmation that the order was received or proof that it was ignored before you boot me. :D
I've been booted a couple of times because of that reason, particularly when I drop and rejoin a game I was already playing; the black screen of death sometimes continues until I drop again.
