Turrety Idea
Caps mostly. You can have cheap AC turrets or expensive longtoms.girlyboy wrote:QUOTE (girlyboy @ Jul 28 2009, 05:12 PM) Why? O_o
What does that have to do with anything?girlyboy wrote:QUOTE (girlyboy @ Jul 28 2009, 05:12 PM) The money would be charged to the person loading out the bomber/whatever, not the person getting on turret.
I never said people wouldn't jump on empty turrets.girlyboy wrote:QUOTE (girlyboy @ Jul 28 2009, 05:12 PM) And it wouldn't even prevent anyone from boarding turret slots that are empty; in fact it'd make it more likely. I do not understand what the purpose is!
About the only thing you've said that makes sense is Why? Please try and think things out before typing next time.

I did think it out. I couldn't understand what you were trying to accomplish - which, you should note, is because you didn't actually explain what problem you are trying to address here, or why it would be cool or interesting to have turrets cost money. So I tried to figure out why you'd be suggesting this, and some system that affects how turret gunners board turret slots etc. seemed like the only thing that made sense to me. I admit I rather jumped to a conclusion here, but perhaps you should explain better why you are proposing a certain idea rather than just throwing it out there with no further elaboration, and then people would not say things that make no sense when trying to figure out why you're making the suggestion in the first place.
Anyway, getting back to the idea, if full AC costs $500, how do you address the fact that a fully turreted bomber would now cost $1,500? After all, this doesn't only affect cap ships, unless you're suggesting introducing different versions of AC, etc., one of which is free but not mountable on caps. (In fact, I was thinking of bombers when I wrote out the stuff that didn't make sense to you).

I don't need to address it, you can still have a solo bomber for 500, but now you are going to have to defend your bombers as they are a little more costly.

But in effect, this becomes a nerf to bombing. Especially early in the game, when you don't have something like heavy ints to escort the bomber with. Now a bomber that can defend itself is substantially more expensive, while a bomber with two escorting light ints or basic figs might not survive in situations where a bomber with two full AC turrets would.
I mean, there isn't anything necessarily wrong with that, but it is a change to how the game is balanced that needs to be considered, is all I'm saying. Does bombing need to be nerfed? >_>
And would anyone *ever* buy AC2/3 (if they aren't going SY)? Would anyone ever use turrets at all, if they can get heavy ints or adv. figs instead to escort bombers with? >_> (Well, unless they're getting something else that uses turrets that they think is worth it, like heavy scouts or whatevers.) So, another pretty big possible change there. 6_6

Make AC = 150 and bomber base cost 200 (100 for IC) so that a default bomber still costs 500 total with 2 turrets, and then scale up from there. You can also then make caps cheaper and decide how you want turrets used. Your full exp and have a sy? Don't bother loading skycap on the frig, just make it a missile carrier for 3k or so.

This is crazy. I mean I could understand it for Gunships but as far as Caps and Bombers go, why? They work fine as it is.
