Shouldn't drones pick up treasure if they can?
Being able to order a drone to a powerup would be nice (I've actually never checked if that works), but there is no reason to make it possible to collect tech with a miner. Too much hassle for no real gain.

i agree with the powerups - yes, tech - no attitude.
picking up tech should remain as something that requires player action, if your team isnt picking up nan2 then they suck and dont deserve it.
powerups could be cool though, would make miner hunting that much more interesting if they could repair magically if you dont pay attention.

I've always tended towards preferring strategy over luck. Now there is lots of 'luck' in Allegiance in the form of rock placement, etc, but I've always felt neutral about random tech and never liked the powerups. One could argue that if you see a miner heading for a powerup you could try and intercept it and get their first, so there is some 'strategy' involved. But I've always placed powerups in the same category as all those 'power ups' you get in a lot of video games like MarioCart, etc.
I think tech pickups should be left to players as a 'reward' for good team work (as FB says above) and good scouting.

i think that seems to be the jist of it, but this is just the dev forum, the moment you try to implement even that reduced shadow of the original idea the rest of the community will jump into a huge whinge fest until its renegated to experimental mode.
