The usual disclaimer: I apologize if this was posted or discussed before!

What is/was the consensus?

Probably some wonky handling of drone cargo.

I don't intend to hash out the technical specifics on the forums, I will leave that for in MSDEV.

I want to know what the community's consensus is on this generally.

To make it more clear, I've added a poll.

I voted yes because to me, it makes sense. Obviously that huge carrier will have room for that dinky little cash box or Nanite 2 that you just can't seem to get your team to go pickup....so do it yourself by ordering your carrier to go grab it. Miner getting $#@!ed up and nans on the way, but not going to make it? oh look a powerup, send the miner to pick it up....saved!

I voted "no" for the following reasons:

A) This just adds to the hastle a commander has to deal with in regards to drone. Noob/Voob can't pickup the tech themselves, so they send a Miner or a Carrier to do it. And when people pickup useless tech it's bad enough, but if someone were to send, say, a Rix miner after a floating Seeker 2, a booting would be in order. Regardless, though, it'd still waste time
B) A carrier can go and pickup tech without much hastle. However, the tech isn't retrieved until the ship carrying it docks... And if you need to pickup tech, you're not going to have a SY for the carrier to dock at.

I do think they should be able to pickup powerups, however. Tech, though, is still a "no" from me

What andon said with one other caveat:

It doesn't seem to make any serious difference in gameplay. Maybe cashboxes and power-ups?

I don't think it is necessary, nor would it add much to the game. My only real argument against it through is that time is much better spent working on other stuff as I don't think this would matter much personally.

I typed a post saying virtually the same thing - then trashed it when I realised I was just repeating Andon - and he put it better.

What AEM said. For the effort and the debugging there are more interesting things to do. But then again the devs decide what they want to work on.
