Can you guys answer a question for the ZG team?

Do probes "see" shared sensors? I.e. if I see a fig all the way across the sector, does the ews 1 probe see it as well?

Curious as to why it would matter says I...

Unless you decide on giving probes weapons. Oh like a space laser minefield!?!?
Interesting question, I'd like to know too.

FYI, rix combat/station drones, AC/SC towers, and plas gens are all technically probes, that is, the game handles them the same way.

You can quickly set up a "space laser minefield" by buying a freighter (from a shipyard) equipped with lots of AC towers, but at $1000 each that's very expensive in the community core.

Another question is whether this has an effect against stations - does the probe have to see a station, or does the station just have to be flagged as eyed, since stations never become uneyed? I'm guessing the latter, since otherwise station drones would only be able to hit teleports if dropped at 300m, and I'm pretty sure they'll fire from farther than that.

EDIT: Heh, that's what I get for writing this, then doing something else for a while before posting it.

Probes will shoot at bases if they're eyed by anything.

Probes will only shoot at ships if they're within the probe's own scan range

Phoenix, myself, and a few others did some testing with this today

Well I'll go dig through the code and see if I can find the little bit that does this.

The scan range, or the scan range modified by the target's sig? I assume the latter, but you were unclear.

the "little bit" is in CprobeIGC::ValidTarget(...)

if the target has c_mtStatic flag (aka can't move, like a base) then team 'eye' is used.

otherwise probe own scan range is used.

the complete 'shoot code' is in CprobeIGC::Update(..) igc/probeigc.cpp
