Like everything in this game why not try it out and see what happens. Do it for say a month or so and see what feedback we get from it.
Adept knows he has my support here.
Can we make a @help tag?
Since when did we care about majorities?spideycw wrote:QUOTE (spideycw @ Jun 3 2009, 11:28 PM) Despite what you are inclined to believe Cadi the majority of Allegiance players think that is a bad idea
Just have more active people wearing Cadet tags in-game to help people out.juckto wrote:QUOTE (juckto @ Jun 3 2009, 11:30 PM) Please elaborate.

While I find agreeing with spidey distasteful he is often right. This is one of those cases. The burden of proof is on you Caddi. Your going to have to show that A) there is a need for more CDT staff or that
an increase in CDT staff will be helpful. I'm not sure of the actual number of CDT people working on it but it is sizable, especially if you consider the advisers as personnel of a sort.
I do think help tags could be helpful to newbies. If when a newbie installs the game they see: "Having trouble with the game look for an @help tag, they'll answer it the best they can!". And we have people actually with those tags online answering questions then it seems likely we will have a higher retention rate of newbies. I do think that @help tag volunteers should however make its priority to route newbies to CDT, and so as such may be seen as a gateway program.

There is no burden of proof.
I am just saying that another possible solution other than having @help would simply to increase the number of cadet staff.

I'm saying with a positive argument that says CDT needs more staff such a statement holds no weight. This requirement of a positive argument is a burden of proof. Please provide one if you expect to garner support.
To help demonstrate the burden of proof remember that CDT and @help are essentially different programs with different goals. CDT requires you to sign up to effectively utilize it. I didn't hear about CDT for at least 6-9 months after I started playing allegiance, let alone sign up for CDT (about a year after I started playing). If there was @help I would have been able to ask questions immediately, these questions would be answered and I would be recommended to CDT.
Perhaps I envision @help differently than adept but I think a typical experience with the program would go as follows:
0 enters a game. @help pms then and says "feel free to ask me if you have any questions, also if you decide you like the game I reccomend you take CDT so you can get the most out of it!". This would in no way counteract CDT and would in fact work in harmony with it. An increase in CDT personnel in no way helps CDT with this purpose, and likely helps with no other CDT problems as the current staff aren't overworked(or maybe they are, but you need to argue this Cadi, aka the burden of proof).

I thought you all were bots the first time I logged in. It was latenight, NOAT was silent, I finally figured out how to join a team, was being yelled at for quite some time, I'm sure, before I actually noticed the chat.FreeBeer wrote:QUOTE (FreeBeer @ Jun 3 2009, 06:31 PM) Here's an observation from one @Alleg who often hunts out the newbie server (or newbie only server) and offers up help: I'm usually greeted with absolute silence. Either most newbies won't read the chat, or can't figure out how to switch to "all". (yeah, I tell 'em how, but I still get silence.)
I'm not opposed to the idea of helpers/greeters/whatever I'm just pointing out that most new players in my experience just want to figure out the game for themselves.
P.S. Just noticed the chat yesterday. Meds were an issue long before I joined SRM.
I was under the impression that Cadet tags were worn ... by Cadets.Cookie Monster wrote:QUOTE (Cookie Monster @ Jun 4 2009, 12:08 PM) Just have more active people wearing Cadet tags in-game to help people out.
So your proposal isn't to increase the number of staff, but to change the way Cadet operates.
Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.
