I know there are also alot of "Failed to connect to the server" posts but i think mine is different.

Windows Version (and Service Packs): Windows Vista Home Premium SP1
Processor Speed: 2.26 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
Video Card (Make and Model#): GeForce 9600M GS 512MB
Sound Card (Make and Model#): Integrated (I think)
Connection Type (Dialup, Cable, DSL, other): Cable
Modem (Make and Model#): Motorola Surfboard SB5101
Router (Make and Model#): None
Internet Service Provider(company name): Optus
Location(State/Province/Locality, and Country): NSW, Australia
Installed Mods: None

Make and Version of firewall: Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2009 Version 17.1.1250
Make and version of anti-virus: R7Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2009 (I don't know what version)

Confirm that you have the following installed:

.Net 2.0 [YES]

Problem Encountered at Step #: When connecting to a game, it displays the error "Failed to connect to the server", which i am guessing means it cannot connect
Which Program (ASGS/Allegiance): Allegiance
What Error Message: "Failed to connect to the server"
Comments (What you tried, description, etc): I have tried disabling anti-virus, Disabling Firewall and running on compatibility mode (Windows XP (Service Pack 2).
I also put "Run this program as an administrator". I also enabled "Disable visual themes, Disable desktop composition and disable display scaling on high DPI settings because fullscreen will not work if i dont do that.

Although I'm not familiar with the specific one, my first guess is it's your Antivirus (especially as it claims Internet security - that sets alarms going in my head)

If it's like Norton and Mcafee, disabling it will not be enough - you will need to uninstall it (possibly using a removal tool from the manufacturers website).

Antivirus' that are known to work with Alleg include Avira ( which is free),

Hope this helps

WHatabout completely closing down the anti-virus software? With trend micro, when you right click the little icon then press exit, it will close it down completely. I tried just closing it down completely and still, it didnt work. Is completely closing down the software same effect as uninstalling? because i have machine with the same antivirus (I still do, but im planning on throwing it out - it's an old machine) and it worked, even when everything is set to maximum protection.

Let me make sure i'm getting this right then.

You have another computer with exactly the same anti-virus and firewall and that can play Allegiance perfectly fine (can log in, load up allegiance, connect to lobby, see lobby, join a game, play the game?)?

If that is the case then make sure internet explorer is not set to work offline (if you set it to work offline then you can't access the lobby)

Make sure ports 2300-2400 are unblocked (but you say you aren't using a router though...) and you are not blocking allegiance on your firewall.

And to answer your question for some antivirus software disabling is not the same as uninstalling, some antivirus'es work by blocking requests through the kernel (heart of the operating system) and this is done when you boot up so it doesn't even check to see if the antivirus is disabled or not, the only way to clean it is to uninstall the antivirus and reboot your machine.

Your error message really only occurs when Allegiance is blocked by an antivirus/firewall or ports 2300-2400 are blocked as shown here

nope i dont want to uninstall trend micro internet security pro because it has only 3 computer installations, and i have used them all up. It is an expensive anti-virus and i do not plan to buy another 3 pc installation just for the 1 computer.

Then you might not be able to play the game. There are free and equal alternative AV-programmes available that don't mess with Allegiance. Paying for such kind of "security" is usually a waste of money. Limiting the number of installations to 3 is even worse. Ask them for a reset and describe your problem with their programme.

It doesn't let you uninstall it to test something, then reinstall it later. WTF?

Is that even legal?

The world of software contracts licenses never ceases to amaze me (and I'm a software engineer....)
