Well if you fly near spatial anomalies which bend the fabric of space-time you could technically get from one place to the other travelling a shorter distance according to Science Fiction rules.

There is a way that this can be done.

Near Kessel, there is the "Maw" - A giant cluster$#@! of black holes. Now, no sane person would want to get near a black hole. So you fly around them. Trimming distance off is riskier, but faster, so saying "less than 12 parsecs" is not entirely impossible. It's just highly confusing if you have no idea what the heck is being talked about.

I think that's about as nerdy as I'll get for today. And if you're wondering why I know this much - I read pretty much every Star Wars book I could get my hands on when I was younger.
