I get a ASGSClient.exe application error dialog box when I try to start it up.

'The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000007b). Click on OK to terminate the application.'

Bummer... anyone know how to solve this?

Running:
Win XP SP3 (although it didn't work on SP2 last few times I tried to get it running before the SP update)
Otherwise my system is unchanged from when I first started playing.

Download this

Put it into C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Allegiance

overwrite the files then run ASGS.exe

You are using an old version apparently. Did you install from the latest installer (ver. 2.21) obtained from this site's Downloads Section? If not, back up your personal settings from Artwork folder and reinstall from a fresh installer.
NOTE: HSharp's solution might work, but I'd still reinstall from scratch to avoid other issues (I don't know how old your current install is).

Omg... downloading the full installer now, I really hope this works! I miss the game... I was in the cadet program a little while some time ago. I'm from waaaay back oldschool playing these sort of games so doing things like flying and calculating lead on targets aren't difficult.. just running the bloody game has been stopping me!!
