Is the
(5 x speed) + base range
thing specific to ABs, or is it the same formula for all missiles?
You Suck at Allegiance
nope, 5 is the lifetime of the missile, it's 4 for dumb1, 4.5 for dumb2+3, 6 for seeker 1+2 and 7 for seeker 3 and huntersdjrbk wrote:QUOTE (djrbk @ Mar 27 2009, 05:56 PM) All missiles.
That's only if it's a stationary target however, like a mining miner, sitting con/carrier, etc.
If they're headed directly toward you in a straight line you get to add their current velocity to the x5 formula as well, leaving for some delicious 2k dumbfire assaults at times against voobs.
Edit: missile range is (acceleration * lifetime^2) + (launch velocity + velocity of your ship when fireing)* lifetime, they live their (admittedly short) life completely untroubled by things like maximum velocity
Stationary targets only, as djrbk said, add (lifetime * speed of enemy) if he is coming toward you, substract it if he is running away, use experience in case you don't have a calculator in your head.

Don't stow thrones in grass houses.
Personally I like to carry one minepack to pod all those people who didn't read and apply juckto's lesson and keep overboosting
I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

My apologies.
I always get rid of guns (and other stuff) on a Figbee, but every time I used to do this before, I always felt a bit paranoid, like "what if for some reason I really really need to shoot at something, and I can't, because I don't have guns?" >_< But now that this course of action is validated by someone who doesn't suck at Allegiance, I am much happier. ^_^

Figbees are so awesome for dogfighting, they have the lead indicator so if you suck at aiming you don't need to fret, the lack of acceleration sucks but most enemies will just blindly charge at you not realising you are a killing machine.
Also I pack 3 ab's generally as 1 goes into the face of whoever tries to shoot me head on, and because ab is so fat if a horde of enemies come at ya and it misses the intended target, can still cause a lot of damage for someone unlucky enough to get caught by it.

I usually keep the 1 minepack as well, just to drop and freak out the int pilots boosting past me.
juckto, the problem I noticed wasn't that people were launching too early, it's that they were launching too late. I was always half a second from firing a second missile, and I was always the lead figbee, which means I was most people's first target. Why? Because I was launching at 1500, and screaming at everyone to launch their first missiles at 1500 not 1000.
Your average figbee, while boosting, will be going somewhere between 100 and 120 mps. If you fire, while boosting, at 1500 while going >100mps you will hit the base as it is in range. Not only that, but you'll fire the missile five full seconds earlier than if you'd waited till 1000m. Not to mention that at 1000m? Oh yeah, the second missile will be ready to fire, increasing the chance that you can get 2 missiles off before you die.

Don't find fault, find a remedy; anybody can complain.

Specifics! Yay!
((a/2)*(tl^2))+ut=d
a = acceleration of missle
tl = missle life span
t = time
u = velocity (sum of ship and missle launch velocity)
d = distance
Constants bring the math down to this. (Number with velocity is the missle launch velocity.)
SRM AntiBase1 = 750m + (Velocity+50)*5
Few others...
SRM Dumb1 = 800m + (Velocity+25)*4
SRM Nerve Gas = 64m + (Velocity+5)*8
LRM Hunter1 = 1323m + (Velocity+50)*7
LRM Killer1 = 1440m + (Velocity+50)*8
That's max distance with a straight line.

Would you say the mass of a prox is negligible? Because taking 3 gats off is the same as taking one prox off.
Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.
the IC bomber spawns the missile from BEHIND which means it loses a few m over some other bombers.Alien51 wrote:QUOTE (Alien51 @ Mar 28 2009, 07:51 AM) Missle Spawn position? I'm not aware of any modifiers that modify the range, speed, or acceleration of missles.
I decided to relive the days gone by in my new blog.
