Ahaha, so it did! I was going off the main website's banner, of course...zecro wrote:QUOTE (zecro @ Mar 17 2009, 09:18 PM) It's not self-proclaimed!
It won the "best game no one played" award by Gamespot in 2000

Hehe, that's because this game is pretty different from every other game out there.ThreeLeafIvy wrote:QUOTE (ThreeLeafIvy @ Mar 17 2009, 08:07 AM) Now I have no idea at all.
Don't worry about that. I've been playing on a laptop for over a year, and it's fine. Make sure you re-map your side thrusters to the WASD keys, though, since they're very important, and are on the number pad by default if I remember right... Just read this! ^_^ (Oh, and the rest of the Cadet I lessons, too.ThreeLeafIvy wrote:QUOTE (ThreeLeafIvy @ Mar 17 2009, 08:07 AM) [...] an issue regarding playing the game on a laptop keyboard
Check what the people in the helpline said about running it off an external HD. Probably best not to install any hi-res stuff because then you will lag. If it doesn't work or you lag anyway, you should just install it regularly... don't worry about callsigns getting linked because the chances of anyone actually re-downloading Allegiance and playing it is slim, and if they do, they can be unlinked within a few days probably. Unless you actually stick around here and then preach the wonders of Alleg to your friend, he'll probably play flash games or something. There are less than 700 active players...
About playing without the numpad... it's totally doable, but you'll have to remap your controls. You CAN play the training missions with custom controls, check here. I was in a used computer store buying parts to put together a P4 box, and I saw a USB keyboard in the used keyboard bin for $5. See if you can poke around in secondhand stores for a USB keyboard if you're dissatisfied with playing without a bunch of keys.

Hi all! I'm Kiloku, I started playing 3 days ago, have read all the Cadet I course and the "You suck at Allegiance", am studying the info on the "Learn More" section (I'm on week 2 btw), and have 3 kills. 1 when I was flying the ship by myself, 2 when I was a gunner.
I hope to be a good player within the community.
Also, I came here thanks to Adept@SF who went all the way to http://www.hard-light.net/forums/ to tell the people who like playing Freespace II how there was another nice game right around the corner, for free

Aha, I know what it was now. I merely forgot one of the games. Okay:girlyboy wrote:QUOTE (girlyboy @ Mar 17 2009, 10:11 PM) Hehe, that's because this game is pretty different from every other game out there.I guess It'd be most like FreeSpace 2 if FreeSpace 2 was a real-time strategy game at the same time as being FreeSpace 2. Feel free to expect a lot, says I, it's pretty darn awesome. ^_^
FreeSpace action
Homeworld strategy
Independence War flight model. No wonder I felt a sense of familiarity with it. Not that it's helping me avoid running into things/overshooting things, but I swear the two have the exact same flight models...
If even one person finds Alleg due to my clumsy infomercials, it will have been worth it.
Welcome freespace forum people
(hard to remember callsigns you picked, but I'll try to learn them).
