nice link, factoid
I think that FAQ and a lot of patience should be enough to get a general understanding of the Alleg code.

Once you have an overview (like, knowing in general what this and that .cpp does), before you change something specific you should look really deep into the code of that specific problem to really understand what you are doing. While that can be tedious sometimes, it helps a lot when trying to spot errors.

 The second part validates the first ;)

C++ is a language, not a program. It doesn't cost anything.

MS Visual C++ Express Edition is free, works great for 99% of stuff. We've got it working with the Allegiance source. There are some legacy stuff that you need the commercial version of C++, but even then the compiler is < $200.

Hopefully as we move toward updating the Alleg source, both client and server, we can remove dependencies on technology that you can't access from Express Edition. I bought a copy of VC++ 2008 professional edition so that I could work with the whole Alleg code base. It's nice to know people who work for MS. :)

Almost all compilers for languages these days are free (as in beer), and several are also free (as in freedom).

This is the perfect moment for this app.

Yes, as mentioned by TB, join IRC and ask away. Lots of good people there. Unfortunately, the dunce failed to mention which network. :P #RollingThunder is on quakenet. Alternatively, just log in with this Java app.

Hey Vly, I've been working with a lot of the programmers myself on different (non-alleg) stuff and they really do help :)

I want to get into the alleg scene but I never have the time >.<
I decided to relive the days gone by in my new blog.
