You know how they made a texture update for deus ex a couple years back? someone should do that for allegiance. great game and all, but it simply looks so dated. Come to think of it, there really aren't that many textures in the game, it wouldn't be that hard to change the models.

if one exists, then please excuse my noobishness ;)

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.

We have over 100 hires textures done, and STILL we're nowhere near finished.

well, strictly speaking, 100 textures is nothing in a game. most games have tens of thousands of textures.

qft

The rocks update really makes a big difference, as does the posters/nebulas/planets updates.

Macattack, look through the link juckto posted, it has a lot of stuff on it. Fair word of warning: the first time you enter a sector you might lag for a few seconds while your hard drive reads all the texture data off. This can be mitigated by clicking through all the sectors in command view when you are in-base. Also, if you don't have a fairly decent PC you might experience game slowdown. The reason that the hi res stuff isn't standard is because Allegiance will play on old machines, but that guarantee is off once you start putting in 2048 textures... (Also, once you update textures, you need to change your max texture size in graphics options. press esc key in-game and go from there.)

well thanks a bunch, i appreciate the help. and zecro: i have a quad core 3.0 gHz cpu, 6 gigs of ram (even though my windows side only handles 4) and a GeForce 8800 GT. I think i'm ok as far as computing power is concerned.

bully for you.

I'm just as (probably more tbh) concerned about keeping the long time players around who play on the old boxes, then meeting the visual needs of those with the gaming machines. Be aware that your coming across a wee bit poorly atm, which I'm sure your not meaning to do.

Remember this game survives based on the efforts of the community alone, which has managed to keep a game that has been around for 10 years going even when the manufacturer dropped them like a hot rock. Also they've only had the source code for a few years now, and still have managed to develop helplines, schooling, security, ranking, stats, new cores, and factions all from scratch all based on coding that is 10 years old. Oh and the code came without instructions or commenting of any kind. (Just getting it to compile was an award winning effort). At some point someone real soon is going to either a) get pissy with you or b) invite you volunteer to help finish the high res efforts or stfu
