So I get past ASGS fine, then get to the server list fine, but then when I try to actually join a server (tried Stripe and GPZ) it thinks about it for 15 seconds or so then says "Cannot connect to server" - this has happened for two days in a row now.

I have periodic router problems - normally solved by logging into it and telling it to restart. However on Thursday or Friday this wasn't working (it was refusing to acknowledge the existence of an ADSL connection), so I turned it off and on at the plug, and this did the trick, I was able to access the internet again. I was wondering if this had anything to do with my problems. I just checked the wiki though and found that port-forwarding etc. hasn't been needed since December 2006 :o

Here's a few specs that might help you out in figuring out the problem.

Connection Type (Dialup, Cable, DSL, other): DSL, via router
Router (Make and Model#): D-link DSL 504-T
Internet Service Provider(company name): Tiscali
Anti-virus : AVG
Windows Vista Home Premium (never caused problems with alleg before)

I have the exact same issue and it was after an update to AVG. I have same OS as you.

I had to uninstall it to connect again so I can play in our squad game and not sure if I should reinstall it again.

OK, some people say it was AVG and others say it isn't. Well, worth a try I guess!

I think I'll go for Avast!, because as WhiskeyGhost says, it makes you sound like a pirate

My friend used avast and couldn't play alleg because of it.
Avira works almost just as well as AVG but u need to get an anti-popup.

Well I installed AVG8 again - same message can't connect to server
- Tried to make alleg files exceptions but no go.
Uninstalled it and Alleg worked

I did the same with AVAST - same problem
Uninstalled and Alleg worked.

Tried Avira - works fine.

Dunno what the issues or real fix is but I see this having big problems for existing or new Allegiance players who use any of these Anti Virus programs, especially if the only known solution is to uninstall them and use Avira or something else.

We've (the helpline team) been doing some tests. Avast Home Edition 4.8 on XP seems to work with Alleg1, as does most versions of NOD32 (with the exception of NOD32 SS on Vista - NOD32 AV seems to be ok on Vista, and both are ok on XP). If you find otherwise, please let us know.

1. Once I installed Avast HE, it prompted me telling me that a new version was available. I did NOT install the new version. I do not know that if I should install it that things will change.

I'm on Vista like Gandalf, not XP

Maybe a combined Vista / AV issue?

I can't test Vista, as I don't have it. I'm hoping one of the helpline folks with Vista will give Avast and AVG a run-through to see what they find.

I have AVG + Vista and i have the problem that seems to be common here.

Do we know what component of AVG is causing the bug? Cause my dad refuses to uninstall it just so I can play a game. :glare: Is there a way to by pass it without removing AVG?

the components in AVG that I think might be causing the problem are either:
a)the Resident Shield
b)the actual Antivirus/Spyware function
