So I was wondering...

I got loads of models on my HDD and most of them have LOD's - quite a few of them. I got fighters, bombers, capital ships - the lot. Comes from modding games for years.

So I was thinking donating some for a good cause. Maybe some faction needs a few ships?
I also heard the Nix was cut due to using models that were bought and thus ended up having some legal trouble. So maybe some models can be used to bring the nix back (I love me. LOVE em!)

Anywa,y here's the link to my homepage and it's got a lot of images of various stuff. Hasn't been updated in ages tough. Still, there's a lot of stuff that I think would work well in Alleg (at least hte lower-poly version would).

For example, this would make a good Nix fighters (older image, no normal maps)

Thoughts, oppinnions?

The models were not the reason that nix was cut. Nix was cut due to imbalance and some issues that could be used to cause the server to crash.

Really?

That's not what I heard. then again, I hear a lot of stuff so it's very likely I hears it wrong.

So the faction was removed because of balance (realatively easy to fix) and a potential security problem (I wonder how that could happen. Something in the code or the faction files themselves?)

Well, anyway, are there plans to bring the faction back (probably changed, but still) back into core? Can I do something to help the process? If not, I can still donate a few models for a good cause.

another reason nix is gone (it might not have been why they're gone, but its one reason why there are no plans to bring them back) is that nix used many new techs that were unrelated to other factions, and so used up lots of the limited number of techs available in the core, removing them allowed room for the Omicron Hive and potentially another faction too.
also, there is a LOT of stigma against nix now, so don't expect much support in trying to revive them. sorry.

Nix is not going to be in the Community core. It was, in essence, too different. The creator of nix did not wish it to be in any other cores as well from last I heard.

As others have said, Phoenix faction probably won't make it back for some time, if ever. Mostly because it used up so much real estate in the core files that there wasn't room for anything new and a few bug/balance problems, but also because Noir just hasn't been around to drum up support for it/approve major changes. In fact, no one has heard anything at all from Noir in quite some time. Some of the guys in XT are trying to track him down in real life, just to make sure he's okay (was having some health problems off and on).

I've always thought your name seemed familiar, now I remember it from occasionally browsing the hard-light.net forums. Regardless of the status of Phoenix, you've got some really nice models. There is probably someone who could use them for another faction or core (even I've got something I always wanted to try). I know a lot of people aren't satisfied with the TF models, perhaps some of yours can be used as a platform to rebuild off of (Ramaglor has worked some on this, might give him a pm).

In case you didn't know, HTL support is being tested in the Alleg R5 beta. If you ever have the inclination you are more than welcome to take a crack at updating/reinventing any of the current models. I've been trying to work on some stuff, but you've got a lot more skill and experience in this department. You can find .x files for all the Factions done by Microsoft at the source code artwork repository: http://svn.alleg.net:8080/svn/AllegArt/branch/FAZDev/256/. If there is anything I can do to support you in any way, just let me know.

Oh well...maybe for another faction then.. Or another faction named Phoenix. Or another faction with a ship named Phoenix. (love the name and the symbolism.. My avatar is also a testemony of that. Heck, I love anything even remotely connected to it).

Anyway, are there any slated changes for the core? New stuff for current factions? Or new factions added? Alleg is an awesome game and I'm all giddy at the thought of there being more awesome in there (and possibly some of my awesome  )

And yea..I'm the TrashMan from HLP. It's common knowledge that I get around..a lot.

I am now playing the alpha of BotF2

I loved that old game even though it was buggy to @#(!.
I decided to relive the days gone by in my new blog.
