As far as I can see, no-one is bashing it, so there is no need to be defensive.Tigereye wrote:QUOTE (Tigereye @ Jan 3 2009, 08:10 PM) See that disclaimer that says this whole thing is still a work in progress? That's why there are all of these little issues/problems with it.
Let those who are working do their work and understand that you are very privileged to have seen the fruits of their labour so early before the project was launched.

I know! I was really expecting more Drama™. Perhaps people are saving it up for 'going over the top'? (WWI)Grimmwolf_GB wrote:QUOTE (Grimmwolf_GB @ Jan 4 2009, 10:28 AM) As far as I can see, no-one is bashing it, so there is no need to be defensive.![]()
I can't comment on how people will react once the new ranks appear in-game, but I can say that one of the neat conceptual differences between Helo and AS is that AS takes team balance into account over the entire course of a game. Hopefully I'll be able to get the team lobby updated so that we can see both the instantaneous team balance and the balance over time. Hopefully little features like that will help keep things balanced even if the new autobalance system (another update yet to be integrated into alleg) is completely ignored.Norgonq wrote:QUOTE (Norgonq @ Jan 4 2009, 12:42 PM) Looks pretty awesomesaucey! Can't wait for this to be implemented, can't wait to see if numerically even games will be truly balanced!
TBH even if 10% of games are more balanced we will have achieved something!

Wonderful! I love statistics. Don't stop here, keep extending stats until we have the same stats that dataminer's (or what his name was) company provided.
Two questions:
* the board doesn't seem to be updating regularly (i've only seen one update in the last week). Are you doing batch runs of new games on a weekly basis or something?
* The rendering of the page is very slow (and it seems to be funky once loaded as well). Maybe this is only a firefox issue? Also, since the application shows the same dataset to all users it would be better to do have server side generated data and using cached pages. The sorting of the list needs only to be done once for each update of the datasource * sorting column...
Just my 2 cents!
Keep up the good work, tell me if you want help baker. I love (implementing ) statistics and would gladly help you in your endaveours.

Yeah. I suppose TE will connect everything up to run live once... well... it goes LIVE. It's better to hash out any problems without taxing ASGS more than is necessary.One-Man-Bucket wrote:QUOTE (One-Man-Bucket @ Jan 4 2009, 02:53 PM) Wonderful! I love statistics. The dataset is currently cached in RAM for 5 minutes. (yet again to avoid stressing ASGS). The AJAX aspect of the leaderboard was a last-minute addition and will undoubtably undergo some refinement. Literally ten days old. I have a relatively old machine with IE7 and FF3.0.5 and it renders within 10 seconds of page load. One or two have reported problems, so if this persists I'd suggest we open another thread to get to the bottom of the issue. Not yet though.

Huh? It is being done more than once? (TE did the AJAX so not my field at the moment) Please expand upon this statement.

Cheers! No doubt I will put out the call should the need arise.

Stack ratings are only there as a GENERAL INDICATOR of the type of games people play. Nothing more... nothing less. They will never appear in-game. They have no effect on mu and sigma. Additionally, stack ratings might undergo a small yet significant reform in the near future. Most of you won't notice the difference...djrbk wrote:QUOTE (djrbk @ Jan 4 2009, 05:17 PM) Some people are actually striving to get negative stack ratings // low stack ratings.
Probably one of the wiser stats to include for balanced games!
