Comments (What you tried, description, etc): Allegiance connects just fine using the PC in the other room. I have allowed allegiance to pass through my fire wall but turn the fire wall off just incase. But it had to effect, I still can't connect.

Well, first let's confirm that you can reach the server with your internet connection.

Post the results of pinging autoupdate.alleg.net

But most likely, you have to make sure that Allegiance is running with Admin privileges. I'm unfamiliar with Vista, so hopefully someone else can chime in with a confirmation and/or additional instructions.

I don't remember how to ping anything. Whats the run command? Btw I've only been using vista for 3 days.

A small problem happend during the patch. Allegiance locked up at 100% of the patch (woot vista) and stayed there for 10 minutes. So i rebooted. Then I had these problems when I went to play on a server. Using add remove programs I uninstalled Free Allegiance, rebooted and then reinstalled. Oddly Allegiance doesn't patch again. So I did the same thing over again and checked the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Allegiance" and it was empty. But this is vista it could be storing old files in a hidden log then replaceing the corrupted files when I reinstall for all i know. If anyone knows of work arounds it could be very helpful.

Delete the C:\Program Files (x86)\ folder and anything else under it (I'm guessing the only thing you'll have in there is Allegiance, but check to make sure before you go carving up the turkey).

There's a problem with Windows(?) sometimes that creates a C:\Program Files[space][and may have more stuff after it] directory which causes the installer to act in a peculiar manner.... pretty much the manner in which you described. Once you delete that folder so that no C:\Program Files[space] exists, you should be able to install it to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Allegiance (note the lack of a space at the end of "Program Files").

Do NOT just delete that folder! "program files (X86)" is the folder for the 32bit applications.

Thanks Grimmwolf.... I know next to nothing about Vista. Vista does that even if it's a 32-bit version? Stupid Windows. Gimme a consistent file structure any day.

Nope. Mine is 32 bit vista, and I just have a regular 'Program Files' folder

That does not mean much. I have the german version of Vista 64 and the folders are in german, but they are only links to their english counterparts (which was pretty confusing in the beginning). I guess that the program files links (hidden from the common user) to "program files x86".

There is no 'Program Files (x86)' or 'Program Files x86' folder on my computer. I've done a pretty thorough search on it and there is no such folder
