we need a text document to list files we dont want to get replaced by the au
which files are currently being replaced?
also, what is different about the dialog.mdl gonig on the au to the default one
if it is the same, why is it going on the au?
also, all the mods to these mdl files are based on the originals, if there is some change to the new default mdls mod makers would need to be made aware of it so they can update their mods for compatability

TE, for dumb old color blind me, could you repost your post, but use blue/yellow so I can see it?
As a Cort UI user I know I would like to see most of the features added in.

Always in the Shadows...
The 'code' and the .mdl go hand in hand, as such the .mdl files are part of the 'code'.
For some things we want to do, there is just no way around changing the mdl.
For example
-replacing the microsoft copy right /ninja.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ninja:" border="0" alt="ninja.gif" /> (or at least rewording it)
-changing the Randomize button to read "Balance" and "Clear" teams appropriately
-changing "Lock Sides" to "Balance Teams"
These changes cannot be 'coded' they are in the mdl.
So to make sure everyone has the new mdl files (as the old ones will crash the new client) we would like to push them via AU.
Now Cort can make the same changes (if there is any overlap) and include them in his pack. Then you can apply it as you do now and not break things.
It will simplify Cort's life and ours if we take the changes everyone (or mostly everyone) agrees on and push those as the default.
An alternative is posting a .mdl bundle which you MUST INSTALL once after we launch R3 but can than modify at will and not worry about AU. (the problem with this is is complicates beta testing a bit and it makes it harder for people to participate and will likely doulbe the posts about things not working for a while).

ok, so what has changed in dialog.mdl
if you have changed something important, then all the old ui mods will cease to function.
which means me and cort will have to go and edit our respective UI's to make them work
basically say, what parts we need to delete, what bits of mdl code we need to add to make them compatable with the new r3 alleg
also, is there any reason we cant have a text file where you put the names of files you dont want to get updated in "DoNotUpdate.txt"

Well if the auto update supports this then no, there is no reason we could not do this.madpeople wrote:QUOTE (madpeople @ Sep 27 2006, 11:17 AM) is there any reason we cant have a text file where you put the names of files you dont want to get updated in "DoNotUpdate.txt"
Now if this functionality is not in there (which I don't think it is) then there is your reason for us not being able to do this.
As far as releasing specific files changed and the changes within, you are getting the cart before the horse. We know these things are coming down the pike and we are trying to make the ride as smooth as possible by doing a little leg work before hand.

well, i was thinking of if its not there, how much of a problem would when the autoupdate does the "analysing alleg installation" or whatever before it dl's the updates checks the "DoNotUpdate.txt" and doesnt dl any updates for files with the names specified in that text fileDogbones wrote:QUOTE (Dogbones @ Sep 27 2006, 04:34 PM) Well if the auto update supports this then no, there is no reason we could not do this.

i'm just trying to find out what i need to change, so i dont login one night and suddenly find my mods dissapear and i cant just re-install my dialog.mdl because some code has changed but i dont know which, so i would need to work my way through it all to see what i need to change.
basically i'm just tryng to be ready for the update so when i find the update is released and it overwrites my mods, i can just install my r3 compatable mods right away (and get ready to distribute them)
if worst comes to worst, i could see if i can get my hotkey mod to install my mods every time i run alleg, so i just need to re-start alleg after a au to get my mods to work again
I like the concept of cortui, however some things I simply hate about it.Ten lines of chat are shown in the lobbyIngame chat has up to ten lines instead of five, including a scrollbarThe HUD's autopilot and vector-lock status icons have been moved and the graphics have been resized so they do not overlap the chatSome HUD-controls are shown during launch animation (chat, minimap (F7), inventory (F4)). Unfortunately, this makes these panes onscreen all the time producing a "doubling" effect which may be seen as "buggy."Sector-view (F3) mode shows all info available from cockpit view (F2) in upper left corner of the screen. (ie: hull, shields, energy, signature, Kill Bonus, etc)A completely new software hud (called "Raveen-style") which replaces the old "Software HUD"Inventory (F4) and minimap (F7) panes have been moved to the sides when in sector view (F3), making more room to see the sectorThe Ship Loadout screen's chat area has been resized to show more chat, and can show the minimap (F7). Unfortunately the minimap does not update properly.10 lines of chat are always visible when in the hangar. Some panes have been moved slightly to make room. In addition, the "back" button has been removed from the hangar since it is now covered by these panes. You can still exit the game with Esc, q.The 'last orders list' is displayed in the cockpit, in the hangar and on the map when in base. The 'default loadout' button at the loadout screen has been moved to the lower right to lower the chance of clicking it by accident.HATE Tolerate Prefer
Even the in game chat of 10 lies is a bit much, I prefer 8 myself. The way cortui affects the f3 screen I completely hate.
Couldn't there be a period of let's say until the new year, where au does push the new mdls, then in the new year it uses a default download and no longer keeps pushing the mdls?
Please don't go by simple majority vote on this, 2/3 majority sounds fair for changes such as this.
=-=
Two related visual changes I'd REALLY like to see;
-Rename "Team Only" chat while on noat to "NoaT Only" chat.
-Change the colour of the 2nd team (impossibly dark blue) to a lighter sky blue.
