I have heard from many people that it couldn't be done. I finally got my hands on a brand new windows vista home premium with Mcafee.
1. Download the .net framework 1.1 and the service pack for it so it will be compatible with vista.
2. Install the program.
3. Right-click the allegiance icon on desktop, go to properties, advanced and click run as administrator to fix the ASGS update problem.
4. Open Mcafee and open Manage Network.
5. Choose the option that you trust the network. This allows the communication neccessary to get on server.
Pitminion is on and playing without issue after following these steps.
heh. with mcafee latest (whatever that is . . 9?), even turning off the firewall and EVERY other piece didn't work.
I did some packet captures and basically, having it installed is preventing the traffic from even getting to the network card. since i have support, i plan on calling mcafee and finding out what the deal is and why it won't work, but it will likely be christmas before i have that kind of time.
I believe that some people made attempts to discuss this issue with Symantec's tech support and had no luck in getting this resolved. I know of no other way of getting Alleg to run with this crap short of getting rid of the crap, sorry.
Sai, some research me and Terr did suggests these packages drop SSDP broadcasts (basically UDP packets which do NAT punch through for Alleg) even with everything turned off. You'll need to get through to some technical guy to find out why.
