Yes because in Star Wars you can't move at the speed of light either, oh wait that's why Star Trek is confined largely to the Alpha Quadrant while in Star Wars they have a galaxy spanning civilization.

Also Star Trek has always been about the fighting, hasn't it? I seem to recall the Enterprise-D going around every episode fighting other people and waging war, or maybe I was thinking of scientific exploration?

Simply put, Star Trek is not about war, or fighting. Star WARS is. Federation ships aren't designed for fighting, only the Defiance was, the rest of them are namby pamby research/exploration vessels with accomodation like a five-star hotel. The rest of the galaxy isn't much better either. Ships in Star Wars are designed for military use, unlike in Star Trek.

I love Trek as much as the next nerd but comparing it to Star Wars is just silly. Trek is not about all out warfare or ship-to-ship combat, and ground combat in Trek is a joke. The two universes are also so far apart in technology level it is ridiculous to think Trek has any sort of a chance in a real, conventional war against anyone in the SW universe.

QUOTE That doesn't have the new BSG/Pegasus on it. They're around 4000/5000 meters long, respectively[/quote]

That sounds completely wrong, do you have a link? The new BSG looks to me about a fifth of that size, probably barely over 700 metres long. 4000 metres in respect to the size of a Viper is a little ridiculous, especially since they can only carry, what 70 Vipers? The old BSG is on that comparison chart and the new one certainly couldn't be any larger.

That has a ship from the new BSG, and from the show it looked like the BSG was only maybe four to five times as long.

Guess that's why no one ever made a Trek core. :)

Star War has less Q Q and moar pew pew.

Unfortunately Q is over nine thousand times more powerful than pew.

Star Trek's greatest asset is warp strafing though. Try hitting those bastards as they move ~ 8-9 times the speed of light.

Trek has better tech imo.

ie. Tractor beams basically shutting down ships, cloaking, warp speeds, scanners, etc. Trek still has Q for the "undefeatable god" factor, and War would win any ground battle. (especially if they're deploying jedis)

I'm not enough of a trekkie/... warsie? to be able to win this argument for either side.

In regards to the picture I just knabbed it off the net, I remembered seeing it a couple of years back and wanted to referrence for this thread. I wouldn't be surprized if there were a more complete one out there. I noted the lack of modern Battlestar Galatactica as well, however, since I stopped watching shortly into season two when the plot got lame (I don't quite understand why the cylons build a human concentration camp for the survivors, yet mercilessly killed everyone before that point)

I thought ST weapons were more powerful, just their defence tech is also more advanced too so they don't look as powerful.

I think i remember (perhaps in the original series) someone on ST mocking lasers and saying about how much better phasers were. This suggests SW lasers are less powerful than ST phasors.
Also, SW guns seem to mostly be manually operated / aimed and not very accurate. ST ones they just press some buttons to ask the computer to shoot at the target and i' ve never seen them miss with phasors (torpedo is another matter).
Also, all ST ships seem to have shields no matter what size, only big SW ships tend to have shields.

can the borg adapt to laser fire? or is the fact the laser simply heats it's target bring it down to whether the target can dissapate the energy safely (since it's a direct energy transfer problem would it be similar to normal guns (kenitic) which do hurt borg?)

at what time period are we talking too? since SW is set "A long time ago" and ST is set "some time later", and in some episodes they come back from "even later" with some really kickass tech like small single person ships with enough firepower to take out whatever class ship voyager was with 3 or 4 shots.

so if you battle at SW time period there is no ST to battle with, at ST time, either SW doesn't exist, or has some really cool tech. if you bring them both to an arbitary time, are you going to go with the main tech level of treck, or the occasionally glimpsed super awesome future tech?
and are we going to go with the things that feature mainly, or will we have the SW suncrusher running about or things like the ST doomsday machine eating the deathstar or the ST cristaline entity causing havoc or some of the other unusual races and entitys from ST doing wtf ever.

will things get complicated if i sudggest that the SG replicators join the fight? :P

Link? Not anymore. Sci-fi channel did have it on their site at one point in time. I did find this: http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/7695/800pxbsg2cvn1en3.jpg which put the Galactica as 'Massively huge' size.

Also, the Colonial 1 can fit in, and dock in, the BSG's flight pods.

The Galactica can handle several squadrons of Vipers - It just has never had the chance since the show's timeline to actually carry more than just the squadron/squadron and a half that it seems to have.

Not sure if the 4k/5k mark is correct, but i seem to remember thinking 'That's a BIIIG ship'

Wait... wasn't there a P continuum that was more powerful than the Q continuum? Q had to come to humans for help. It's a familiar storyline - "We aliens rock but we need you humans to help us!" Star Trek (original series aside, arguably) always does push the idea of humanity at their best and as a force for good in the universe. Idealisitc, but fun nonetheless.

edit : Although "Start Trek" does sound funny....
