I hear static when I turret

i have a weird proble, its simple but so annoying, i got a new computer with a SB X-Fi sound card

now i have a turrets thats sounds psychedelic, lots of glitch and sounds looks like is on off on off very fast all time, i don't turret anymore because of that it hurts as bad a the boundary or overload sector alarm

please help be get back in that turret seat without ears bleeding

I've got the same card, and the same problem. Mine is more distorted then static and personally it doesn't really bother me so i've not tried to fix it, but the wierd thing is that for me when the ship I am turreting in either stops or moves slowly the sound is fine.

for me its i move i suffer, if i say still its all okay, but move and its torture for ears, do other players ear it when it happen to us

is it possible to simply change the irq channel to a lower one empty?.
is it wotrh to try before doing it the hard way?, i have 15 on irqs alredy i have a bad feeling about being on the edge at 15/16

is it safe anyway?

Alright, well, I had the same problem. Tiger's fix helped me immensely. It's ONLY for the tech-savvy, to pursue this route.

I did the same steps, and by using the BIOS, I could push the sound blaster down to a lower slot. How?

I went into my BIOS, and in there, I had an option to 'reserve' an IRQ slot. By reserving the IRQ slot that my Sound Blaster Audigy was in, I could force the SB off that IRQ. Where it ended up, was all determined by chance. I had to do it a few times to force it to IRQ 11.

This isn't a complete fix, I still get launch from base crashes occasionally, but it helped cut down the frequency.

The BIOS method (or through the device manager) is the best way of getting it down to the lower 16.

Essentially what the hard way does is change your Windows kernel to one that doesn’t support the higher IRQs. It’s worth noting that the hard way also disables the use of multiple processors and hyperthreading (if you have a P4). It is possible to change it back, but the method of doing that is even more involved (and kinda dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing).

Or you can wait for FAZ r2, which will use DirectSound 8, which will work on newer cards in the higher IRQs. So test the beta and report any problems (flux seems to have issues with the new sound) so we can get it out the door.

my computer is a fully loaded all upgrades in 3.2 gig dual core XPS 600 -GeForce 7900GTX -and the 16 mb SB XF-i
one month old and i dont want to mess things in it



Can i just kill the .wav or ogg turret move/action sound?

Just in case (Since I know english is not your first language) Tiger means that turreting will have no sound effects, instead of meaning that deleting the wav will not change anything.
Apparently a California "cabin" is any place more than 4 blocks from a McDonalds.

right.

Deleting the turret swivel wav and the turret fire wav will make your turreting experience silent, but you will still experience the same crashes and stuttering as you would with the sounds in-place.

Removing the .wav files does nothing to solve the crashing/stuttering issue.
