Problem Encountered at Step #: (read the "What Should Happen" for this step#)Beyond last step.

Comments (What you tried, description, etc):
Quite simply many of the gui compoents are missing, I cannot see the actual bars when I use the "graphical" dislplay system, though they are there when using software, and my targeting cursor is always pitch black, which , in space of course, makes it insanly hard to see. I have installed custom cursors in an attempt to fix it I have also reinstalled allegiance, it has run on an exact clone of this machien with no significant problems before, and I belive on this machine at some point but now I am having trouble.

EDIT: Off to Assembler Class, I won't be able to check back in for a few hours, at the very least.

Hmm, bad video drivers, or failing display card. I doubt Alleg has anything to do with this if it was installed freshly. Try doing this:

Start -> Run. Press Enter.
Type in "dxdiag" without the quotes into the box and press Enter. Check each tab and see if any errors show up.

DirectX runs fine, and everything related to DirectX, other things run directX with no issues, it happens only in alleg. I can't think of anything I installed that would have changed recently.
I'll double check the integrity of my card, maybe I'll find some cash and go buy a POS at the local walmart. Thanks, anyy other ideas?

It's just that Alleg is great at finding issues with your comp. Your vid card might be falling apart, but you'll notice it only later.

One solution I can think of is reducing the hardware acceleration level in Dxdiag video card settings one notch down. See if it helps.

I am having some trouble finding where to reduce Hardware acceleration in dxdiag, can you tell me what tab? Also I have a debug driver in my list of drivers, is that a possible problem?

Good news and bad News:

Good News: I can see all the stuff that was missing and I know what was wrong and have fixed it.

Bad News: Turning off 3D acceleration, which fixed the problem, makes alleg unplayably laggy... where can I go from there.

Does your videocard (onboard) have its own configuration controls in the Display control panel? Perhaps somewhere burried in the 'Settings' tab's 'Advanced' button?

If so, try looking for things like Anti-Aliasing, or anti-isotropic or anti-discombobulationarianismomgwtfbbq or any other kind of anti-longword thing. If you find any of them checked, uncheck 'em.

This may allow you to up your 3D acceleration again and have those parts appear as normal.

Update the drivers or get a cheap replacement card for your on board video card.
Nearly all available stand alone video cards are much better than the top notch onboard cards.
