I think my own personal stats are 30% attack, 30% defence, 40% flying aimlessly in circles.

I'm tempted to say that Allegiance is 100% defence and 100% offence. Meaning that in any given moment, you will find people doing both roles. At one moment you will find 90% of pilots defending against a bomber run, and then soon as the run is all podded, 90% of the team will be devoted to the counterattack. I'm sure you could find the mathematical average somehow, but that number is ultimately meaningless; the game is just too dynamic to be analyzed in terms of one number.

Basically, you do whatever most needs to be done at the moment. What makes this a great game is that there is never an idle second; there is always ten urgent tasks demanding your attention at all times. The ability to figure out which one is most urgent is called 'situational awareness' and it's a skill that separates the best players from mediocre ones.

All games require you to win by attack. By killing something, or getting a point somehow. Therefore it doesn't matter what game you play, an Aggressive player or Team against a less aggressive one will always win.

Wow... I made a post then went off to bed, then the next morning I see lots of replies! /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> I've always liked defense strategies, but the poll (as of 4/1/2008) shows that most people play with offense? Shouldn't there be a faction that specialises heavily in defense?

PS: No wonder I don't see much of Tower Drones. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Curiosity eh?

Where's my damn cat!

Oh and wisdom and Sun Tzu is an oxymoron. I suspect Sun Tzu is ancient mandarin for Captain Obvious. If you really want to apply the theory of war to Allegiance then look at Clausewitz. 'Identify and strike centres of gravity, innit.'

Ok, I added the 'innit'.

Some of the wisest statements always seem obvious in retrospect.

One could apply your criticism to Clausewitz. Going for the center of gravity? Doesn't that seem obvious? How about his focus on concentrating the largest number of your forces possible against your enemy at any given point, doesn't that seem pretty obvious? I guess maybe it's not so obvious or we wouldn't still be reading their books after hundreds (or thousands) of years.

Let me put this another way. How many times have you seem people fly sbs to kill outposts or teleport receivers while the enemy still has tech bases? Why doesn't it occur to people to go after the tech base first?

How about another example. How come so few people focus on attacking/defending miners in the first 20 minutes of the game?

In both of those cases, we are talking about the 'centers of gravity' in the game - the enemy's tech and the enemy's economy. Yet most people don't seem to grasp the 'obvious' idea of hitting them first and foremost.

If you want to succeed in war, you need to play "the" war, not play the "war".

Clausewitz's "theories" make me cry at times. Some of them are stupid even for the time period he was in.
