At good times there's often enough squadded players about to get a game going. Maybe instead of complaining about PuG's there should be "squadded players and cadet-A only" pug's?

I'd quite enjoy playing in such games occasionally.

Picobozo wrote:QUOTE (Picobozo @ Mar 19 2008, 09:08 PM) Also Takingarms, why not start some no-novice games? Split away from the main game some time and make an invite only game. Kind of like Allegiance in the SOV route days.
If rankings worked right we could just start a no-novice that restricts people from below a certain rank from joining. Doing it invite only I think would be pretty hard to pull off, and also would probably come off as elitist and make me look like an ass. I mean, imagine what kind of a stink Bacon would make if I "forgot" to invite him?

I would not mind organizing some weeknight activities if people would let me though. Who do I have to sleep with to get a message on the front page?

BV, sometimes I wonder if you smoke coke. Do you not recall "Stat padders"??? That's about as much as a "whore mentality" as possible. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I made a career out of whoring other teams into submission.

However, I do fully agree with your second sentence, the teams from back in the day were far better at team work than the majority of the modern teams. XT has a nice blend of grizzled vets and "modern" vets and it seems to work out pretty good for us.

Back in the day, I knew if I joined a team, bought ints and htts and I told the team to do a quiet HTT run on a tech base they knew what that meant and I wouldn't have to hand pick my pilots to accomplish the mission. Now, if I say, "Do a quiet htt run" I would probably end up with 2 people requesting bombers when we don't have any, three scouts probing the enemy tech base making noise for no reason and some random douche probing our own exits.

If I could get a team half as good as the classic AZ pick up teams, I would probably play this game more than every other month. I used to have so much fun playing this game that I would schedule time to be home for Zone games.

Now, playing a pick up game is torture for me.

Do people not realize that this is a classic, "If Babe Ruth were on the same team as Barry Bonds--who would have more HR's for a season?" Or, if Lefty Gomez were to pitch against Roger Clemens, what would be the outcome? What about Terry Bradshaw vs. Dan Marino? If Nazi Germany didn't put Operation Barbarsosa into action and actually finished-off the UK... <Please don't rathole down a steroids avenue here as I'm just making a point.>

This debate has been going on since there was one man / person / team / country from one era and people pitting them up against another. Name a sport, person, nation, or whatever and you have what is being posed in this thread.

I played all during Beta. I didn't play during AZ or FZ (due to the wife wanting to kick me out the door). But, I digress. Yes, there are times / points I can make in regards to teamwork, but really, how in the world could I possibly compare yesterday's teams to today's? It just isn't possible and won't happen. It's fun to think about, but that's about it. Each side has a solid position to take and a good argument to make. In the end, that's all ya got.

You have some vets from yesteryear and some pilots today who would have been among the best. But in regards pitting one squad / team from a different era from another--there is no winner.
