It doesn't make much sense in my mind... but from what people have been saying, it sounds like people who aren't having issues installed their new cards on a clean system more recently. What if people who are having this issue try uninstalling/cleaning out their old drivers then install the newest drivers (as opposed to simply installing the new drivers w/o regard to whatever was installed before), and see if that makes any difference.

Anyone willing to experiment (who has the framerate issue)?

I performed that procedure and it did not change a thing. Wasp suggested it in helpline some time ago.

High res packs don't change the frame rate at all, with or without them, it is choppy.

I installed 8800 GTS 320mb on a new system with newest drivers and got the framerate issue (12-20). Uninstalled new drivers, ran Driver Cleaner (and whiped out my lan driver... doah) then installed what I thought was Forceware 162.12 but DX Diag informs me that the drivers are 6.14.0011.6218 and get framerates > 70. I don't think I have to reset anything continue getting good FPS, but I've only played about 3-5 hours on this machine, so will update you guys if I have to. Run on 32 bit colors @ 1280-1024 resolution on an old flat-screen CRT monitor.

The Forceware numbers and internal driver revision numbers do not match.

Orion makes a good point. Wasp's posts have helped some. They have not helped me.

I can uninstall the vid drivers, install the one that shipped with the card and get FPS in the 60's
I install the latest driver (and I just tried Forceware 169.44 beta) and get FPS of 16
Uninstall, put back the old driver and FPS go back into the 60's

I've run the driver cleaner, but that is not to say that there may be something the old drivers are leaving behind that interfere with the new drivers. Vista systems do not appear to have this problem (but they use slightly different drivers).

We are working on a fix, and that version, even with the latest drivers, gives me a FPS of 70 (pegged at my refresh rate).

So we are all talking about similar FPS
Launch training mission 6 (practice arena), hit alt-f, and look at the SECOND number, it is right after fps:

That is the number that is in the 14-18 range for me with 'bad' drivers.
I have the 1024 high res rocks and some other textures and run in 32bit color, but I have tried 16bit and the 'stock' textures, didn't make a difference.

Americano. If you right click on the desktop and select properties. It will show you a window with the res and color setting. Your Video card name is listed there.
I loose my motivation to help out more and more each day to drama like this. Which is why I am mostly /meh on this point. I will continue to play as I always have, with the morals I have been rasied with and if this community finds they don't like myself and others like me who just enjoy playing the game with their friends on TS or squadies, then they can ban us and my Warhammer account, Girlfriend, and IRL activities will get a lot more attention and will thank them.
