Trying to find a vet pilot...
Don't stand still. Boosting is your friend, as are side thrusters. Play more and watch people who are better then you.

Not saying you shouldnt strafe or boost, its just that the time you did use it, it allowed me to hit you without having to do any dodging myself.
Circle and S strafing helps alot durring combat, but boosting can throw off your aim. Best time to boost is to either act evasivly such as when breaking through a camp, or if you are trying to quickly get in range of a target. Not to mention it comes in handy when running /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
You dont want to thrust in the oppisite direction you are moving either, that puts you at a complete standstill for a few seconds.

Vector lock is cumbersome to use and I find very little application for it. I can do the same thing just using my side thrusters with alot more control over what I'm doing. No need to toggle the stupid vector lock. AFAIK, good pilots don't use vector lock. Just make sure you map all your thrusters (up down left right and both forward and back).
Boosting does not throw your aim but makes it hard to see by bouncing your screen around. Your guns still shoot at the same spot. You can train yourself to be able to aim and shoot while boosting.
Boost can be used all sorts of ways. I use it both offensively and defensively. The hardest thing to learn is boost discipline... knowing exactly when and when not to boost.
As for thrusting in the opposite direction... yes most of the time you dont' want to do that but there are certain rare occassions where it's been useful for me.

I use vector lock when I have to press >4 keys at the same time, usually when I'm nanning or trying to get from point A to point B without being easy to hit, and if I want to kill a few people along the way =P

yeah, learned that in cadet a couple weeks ago, and have had the opportunity to use it a few times since. It definitely makes a difference if you're able to circle cap again once good and proxxed.MrChaos wrote:QUOTE (MrChaos @ Feb 9 2008, 02:31 PM) using vector lock as a nan can be useful since durng the intial rush of base defendees you fly forward, turn nose to nose with bomber, drop prox to slow the rushing ships. After that flying ass first into a rush of ints is suicide or just plain asinine
meh, i think it's all about experiance. I've learnt methods to circle strafe round bombers thats not been mentioned on CDT or the fourms (that i've seen, and i dont think i'm the first but i'm just making a point /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />) I don't use vector lock, I do use thrusters and the main booster...
Prob how half of you do it but my point is just feel it. Then when you die think "why?" and try and change it. If we all did it one way then someone would learn how to counter it and that way would be come bad etc...
Just my opinion.
