I do not count lagjumpers as dogfighters.
Top dog fighters
Best Ever?
I'd say one of the current lists with Ahaneon and Imoen on them and add in Iron_Wardog.
The man is a legend in the inner circles. I've never flown with someone who had such an indepth knowledge of the game and the spacial awareness he had. He could make dumbfires hit at insane angles, know where his opponents are in 3D space at all times and could narrate to you, with crystal clarity, games he played 1 day, 1 week or years before (he has photographic memory). Insane amount of patience too.
To be honest, I'm yet to see ANYONE fly fighters like he does.
Whores? Move over and make space for real legends.

Before you ask a top 10 list it'll be nice if you give a better definition or at least a specific guideline for selection.
IMHO the best dogfighter is the man that jumps in a ring with a pitbull and beats him into submission using only his two front teeth.
Now when it comes to allegiance, there are mayor groupings you can take dogfigther under:
- 1-1 (Weed, Spaceman_Spliff) (def: self explanatory, 1-1 battle, rarely happens, unless you're not playing as a team)
- kill whore (Grey, Spaceman) (def: goes in for kills, preffers to kill "easy" targets, constructors/miners/scouts. Usually ends up with the bomber kill in D, they're "In your face" kind of dogfighters, always there where the action is)
- Mass Dogfight (Culm, Grey, Aarm, Snack, Frag) ( def: players with great awareness, in a mass dogfight they target the "center" of the dogfighting mass, end up with multiple kills in these situations)
- Defenders (Aarm, Frag) (def: players who are usually escorting miners/constructors/bombers, they speciallize in hitting targets that are targeting other units) <IMHO its harder to specialize in this since it takes longer to shoot down a target that's not actively attacking you, unless they're one of those sit still and shoot idiots>

The nan-hater --- STFN!

All I have seen s_spliffy do lately is gank targets of oppourtunity and run away. He's like the new sabertooth!
I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

My apologies.
I did this because of the upcoming tourney. I define my top dog fighters as the ones who are great at fair 1 vs 1 match ups. ie, equal ships with no one else around. For the voobs, Spaceman_spliff=angry_o. Being a great dog fighter does not mean being a whore type. Whores are all about the kill count. If a whore could get more kills by dropping probes, the whore would switch to a scout and drop probes. The dog fighters wants to go mano to mano. Most of the great (not all) dog fighters are not good whores, mainly because the top dog fighters do not run away. The dog fighter mano to mano types fight till they die usually. Whores will run away when things look grim, because podding home reduces the time available to pod another for a kill. Different mind sets and goals. Do you want +1 to kill count or do want to beat pilot xyz?
Completly changed and updated my formula to make more sense, introducing the neek whore performance indicator (or NWPI for short):
