Shoot, I'm gonna be building a PC this month for myself. Now you all have me worried. Was considering 8800GT, 8800GTS, HD3870, or possibly might get something really bad and upgrade later this year when better cards are out.

I've got a MSI NX8600GTS Diamond Plus, never had such problems...

Running WinXP SP2.

@Dog
Almost everyone i know that have the new Nvidia serie got problems.. 90% are solved with the new Beta driver.. and the last 10% got the fix with both a Bios upgrade and Beta driver.

@Aem
8800GT 512 is the best buy, there will be a 8800 Ultra release in Jan-Feb so the prices are going down.

Personally im waiting for PCI-X2 MB's before i get a new box..

PS: Why torment your self with a upgrade when Vista suxs and DX10 is a joke, notepad runs just fine on WinXP64... Ohh and since the major software producers still dont support 64bit in their production line why change.

PPS: And im getting another XP64 OS for the new box.. Its a bargain.. 100$ for a 64Bit OS(W/ Server 2003) thats better then 200$ 64Bit OS(W/??? Nothing)

Life suck's and then u play Alleg.

Unfortunately neither updating my system drivers (Gigabyte) to the lastest nor getting the latest beta driver (169.21) made any difference. I am hoping this is maybe a new (or newer) problem in the latest drivers and they will eventually figure it out. However I am sure they are much more concerned about games/benchmarks sites like FiringSquad report and not the old and moldy games. I did see a spattering of reports of older games (not as old as Allegiance however) not doing well.

I really hope they address this in the next driver update but I don't have my hopes up.

Allegiance is playable but choppy as all hell. I tried the original version off the CD as well as R3 and R4, all look crappy.

I got my hands on an 8600 GT OC 512 MB card (also a BFG) running the latest (163.75) drivers. It had NO problems. I was getting a solid 70 fps.

So this problem seems specific to the 8800 GT and the latest drivers. Older drivers may work but I have not tried them yet (or know where to get ones that I can reasonably trust).

I've opened a support ticket at nVidia regarding this, especially now that I know the 8600 does not have the problem but the 8800 does. I am not too hopeful however that they will spend any time on this. But maybe given they have another 'close' driver that works they might look into it.

Good to know. What version of the driver? It would be great if I can tell them that driver x works but driver y does not.
Now if you are running the 'latest' Forceware 169.02 that sort of blows it all to hell.
