I posted on a french forum about allegiance a long time ago(5 or 6 years ago). The allegiance section of the forum only had 5 or 6 different topics posted on it, so when a french person went there, he saw my name and emailed me about the game.
This person asked me for french material and I had nothing better to say that there was nothing.
So what I'm suggestion would be to add a new section(That could be called other languages). From there, there could be a new section for every languages. Players could ask questions in their own languages and get answears from people who speak their languages.
I know that there is a large number of gamers who have problems with english. 8 or 9 years ago, I was one of those and having some kind of french information was something I found very interesting.
I understand that english is very important to play allegiance, but word to mouth is the best way to get his game growing, so if we can interest that guy who will bring 10 of his friends, we should /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Even simply translating public @CDT-I course would take some time. Also, they need the English to coordinate.
Still, the language barrier adds to the learning curve and thus is mostly why there are so few French, Italian and Spanish players around.

It's a good idea if you want to expand, but first I'd suggest with a sticky thread in the help forum for them to post in, then you know they're french and need french support. Once that gets busy enough to be annoying, then make a sub forum under the help forum, use forum specific posticons with flags to represent language. Then you have one forum for all non-english languages, if it every gets busy enough you can add specific language forums.
Obviously I'm in favour of the general concept.
People seem to think that these people won't speak English, that's not nessasarily the case... they most likely will find themselves needing help like any other person, but will require greater assistance as their grasp on English written will not be of a technical level where they'll be able to understand easily.
my thoughts anyway

n.b. I may not see a forum post replied to me or a pm sent to me for weeks and weeks...

JG's idea is good. The issue is how many French speakers here who can help in Tech support. A long time ago there was a discussion about cadet/academy and we decided then it would be too difficult. I know we have a very large number of limited english speakers coming through cadet. But they always seem to do ok.
(We actually ask on the exam if English is NOT their primary language.)

Nobody wants to translate Allegiance, just a subforum for other languages... /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />Tallon wrote:QUOTE (Tallon @ Nov 22 2007, 04:41 PM) It's probably easier to learn English than to translate Allegiance.

The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.
