I have read the sticky you're talking about and have already done the C++ runtime stuff. i un-installed and re-installed and went through all the updates and i have the same problem....

it gets to the "logging into lobby" part and i can see the marquee scrolling in the background but i have an hourglass but it never progresses.

sticky: a tread that is marked such that it "sticks" to the main page and doesn't scroll off after a time. Used to make certain threads highly visible whenever people enter the forum.

I'm referring specifically to this sticky.

ok, my computer is past compatible and i have been playing this game for a while even after the r4 update but i had a registry corruption a few days ago and i fixed that problem but today was the first time i tried to get on alleg and this is what happened. i have already read the post about the game crashing when it tries to log into the lobby but my game doesn't crash and i get no error message. It says "logging into lobby" and doesn't go anywhere. i still have full functionality of my comp. i am able to minimize the game and shut the program down just fine.
I am running XP not VISTA.

i'm confused and don't know where to start.

Veggy did it, you can too. If you want help from VOLUNTEERS, you have to do something to get it.
