Hera, Aphrodite, and Athena all started to argue over it. Zeus called in Paris to make the decision and the goddesses all promised him different things if he chose her. Aphrodite's bribe was "the love of the most beautiful woman in the world" and that's how Helen got involved.
So blame Aphrodite for the "first war of mankind" as the Trojan war was supposed to be. Eris is just a scapegoat.
