Crash on game start/end
What was the message in the ASGS window?Sultan wrote:QUOTE (Sultan @ Oct 24 2007, 11:52 PM) On Beta server tonight, at every game launch and end I would get sent back to asgs, and allegiance would close.
Edit: I just looked at the logs, I see you logging in successfully and then, on a number of occasions, exiting within 30 seconds. I did not see the server kicking you for missing role call (i.e. lagging so much you get dropped). It also does not look like Allegiance crashed. I am not sure why you exited. Try turning on logging/debugging in ASGS and see if that shows anything.

What I'm doing is logging on. Starting up a game. When I launch the game, that is when it closes and brings me back to ASGS. I would suspect it is on the line • Allegiance exited with code: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. I have the latest client version that I thought was out.
I can get into a game that is already running, it is just when the game starts, or finishes when Alleg closes.
Other info: XP sp2, 1gig Ram, 2.8gig processor
Here is the listing when I turned debug logging on:

So, just to be clear
You can start ASGS
Login
Click "Current Games"
Get to the listing of servers
Pick a server
Join the server
If the server has a running game you are fine
If their is no running game you connect to the server and then exit back to ASGS (as the client crashes)?
Also if you are in a game and it ends you exit back to ASGS (as the client crashes)?
Sounds like a missing or corrupt artwork file specific to the game lobby (not server lobby).
Unfortunately the client is very very picky about missing artwork files, it simply crashes if it does not find one.
Are you using any mods? We recently updated some things on the mission start window as well, like the position of the mini-map on the mission briefing as well as added some things to the game end screen (like save stats).
When you got the latest installer where there any problems updating the artwork/dev folder? Did you modify any of those files by hand? When I get home I can post a listing of what the contents of the dev folder should look like.

You are almost correct on the description, and I don't know if it makes any difference or not.
Fist, I have no issues in non beta mode, which I think is a given.
In beta mode;
I can log on the the beta server.
I can see the games listed. If a game is running, I can join the game without crash, but at game end, alleg just closes instantly and I end up back at the desktop with asgs. Before the start of a game I can join a team, and at game launch I will end up at the desktop, alleg closed.
If no games are running, I can create my own game. I can set it to run with 1 team. When I launch the game, alleg closes instantly and returns to the desktop with asgs.
I was having difficulty up through last week getting in to the beta server, so I removed and reinstalled from scratch using the link in the sticky post at the top of the forum.
I didnt recall any difficulties but I could be wrong, because I was trying to get the original install to work, trying several different things, and finally just uninstalling and starting over.
Thanks much for your help!!

You can always try running filemon (just google it, it is a microsoft systeminternals utility).
Start it up before you start allegiance. If you want just have it monitor files in the artwork folder. Start ASGS and then when it crashes (goes back to ASGS) look at the filemon window. Chances are it will be reporting an error trying to open a file. That file is your problem. Post it here.

I'm having the same problem too, along with a couple other people. I can join in a game lobby just fine. Just as soon as that comm presses the Force Launch button, I crash to desktop. Joining games, fine. Ending games, fine. It's only when all the teams are all ready to go, and the countdown timer is just about to come on when I crash.
