Everybody hates DM. Why?
Honest question.
I personally enjoy it, at least when done right, and for the life of me I can't figure out why balanced DM games aren't played more often. To me, it seems like a great part of the game that gets ignored at best and hated at worst...and I don't understand why. Anyone care to enlighten me? Thanks.

DM are just a glorified FPS shooter. There are a million of them out there to play. Boring very fast. (I am talking about a real DM with XXX number of kills to win the game). There are a handful of guys here who excel at it. The rest of us are mediocre int whores at best. Why beat yourself up against Weed, Frag, Culm, etc.?
The draw of this game is the tactics and teamplay. There anyone with average (or less than) whore skills can do just about any role in the game and help the TEAM win. Much more fun than DMs.

QFT. If I want to get out and frag someone, I play TF2 or whatever the FPS of the day is. (Minus halo, because that sucks.)

A real DM is just about taking ints focusing fire and running back home whenever you're taking damages. In AW1 or 2, there was a rule where if 2 teams tried to expand in the same sector, the game was a DM and the winner was allowed to build. The only thing I remember is how crappy a DM is when both teams tries to win. It takes forever to end and both teams just camps near their own base. It's unbeleivable how boring a DM can be.
I've though about making a DM core that would fix most of the problems, but I am too busy.

too bad everyone plays silly DM settings, like invuln bases and such. It would actually be nice if it were an addition on top of a regular conquest. If kills could be set at say 200, then you'd either have to bomb them to death or kill 200 enemies before they kill you. There would be a strategic compromise about whether you wanna sacrifice that 9 man bombrun on an op.
