QUOTE Here's how lazy I am....I didn't even think to reply!

Actually had a problem with the damn mail server and didn't get any of this until today! strange. Anyhow, yep...ALL too familiar with that game. I did write it up in the magazine at some point. Unless I'm totally nuts. In fact, thanks for reminding me...I need to go back and play some more of that right now.

Now where did I put that joystick? ;p

Subject: Have you reviewed Allegiance?

Have you checked out the game Allegiance yet?

Microsoft originally produced the game but years later released source code to the gaming community. Since then the fanbase of Allegiance have made scores of new mods and patches and they even host their own game servers.

Allegiance combines the best attributes of a space flight sim and a RTS command system. The game has a very steep learning curve but it more then makes up for it for the gameplay it provides.

The game has been out since around 1997. I still enjoy it due to its hard core focus on team work and the constant stream of mods that keep the game fresh.[/quote]

Who are you, and why do you use joysticks?

Just fyi, Allegiance came out in 2000, not 97.

I'll be interested to see what the final response is.

I'm sure he will rate and review it in an upcoming Games for Windows issue. Regardless, the review should draw many new people to the community. There are lots of old space flight sim vets out there looking for a game like alleg. Being free, it's also a plus. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

When you rate allegiance, please rate it as if its a mouse only game. Joysticks are not good at precision gunning, and that is important in dogfighting and turret gunning.

Actually, MW, it's all dependant on the person. Just because you're better with a mouse doesn't man that someone else isn't better with a joystick.

malice, angel is not the person who would be reviewing the game. He already plays regularly and just wrote a letter to someone who works at the magazine so that they might review it.

True. If someone is better with a joystick then a mouse, then they suck with a mouse.

That does not make the joystick better then the mouse however.

MW, i know people who swear by the stick, and do quite well. I know people who swear by their mouse, and also do quite well. I know people who swear by their touchpad, and do quite well. I know people who swear by their trackball, and do well. While you can't use any input device out there with allegiance, there are still numerous ones that work fine. Also, I know people who use both stick and mouse depending on their feelings at that time, so they aren't just competent with one or the other.

Weed, aarm and Spaceman_Spliff (I think) use joysticks, and Shiz, Culm and others use mice, so it's all down to preference.
