Now, i was wondering about how sanctuaries can be killed by friendly fire, regardless of FF being on or off, and wanted to know if anyone could confirm a theory for me.
My theory, is that the reason for it is because it has the "Rescue all pods" modifier under ICE, as apposed to other probes, and thats why it works in such a way (being both hostile and friendly to all sides).
On another note, i was wondering if that could be applied to regular probes (EWS) as well. If applicable to regular probes without the "rescues all pods" ability, it might be interesting to have such things applied to those who are willing to do so on their respective cores. For the most part, it would prevent those "Probed base doors"(both the bad one, and the REALLY bad one which keeps miners from docking). The only downsides i see to it, would be friendlies intentionally de-probing your probes (which is a violation of the RoC if i recall correctly), and the possibility of having a newbie or something do so un-intentionally.
To be honest, in the few times i actually see FF on, i've never seen anyone bother to shoot friendly probes, not even those who tend to ignore anything and everything and do whatever they feel like. Then you could get around the bad issue of "accidental" (actual or not) probing of base doors during FF off games. Then you could have the ability to get rid of that nasty probe on your base exit/entrance, while being assured that someone doesn't bomb friendly bases, or uses FF just to screw around and/or make trouble for his/her team.
Note that i'm not talking about actually DOING this, i'm just asking if its possible within a reasonable degree (not requiring a code change)

Yes, sanctuaries can be destroyed by friendly fire because they carry the 'rescues all pods' flag. If we simply wanted to make all probes vulnerable to friendly fire, it's a trivial change, but at the moment there wouldn't be any way to easily create a 'ff exempt' flag for probes without changing the core ice format. Unless there's a spare bit in the probe's flags. But even then KG would have to update ICE to support the change.
