A few of us were testing BETA with a DN server, and noticed that carriers exhibit some strange bahavior.

When the carrier alone eyed an enemy fighter:It would announce "carrier at risk"It would relay the enemy to the mini-map, so you knew he was in that sector and what kind of ship he was flyingIt would NOT relay position information in command view or cockpit viewSo when I would rip in to defend the carrier, I could not see the enemy, until I eyed him myself.

I remember there being some discussion about DN drones having "issues"; is this one of those known issues?

It was several days ago--I've been trying to remember, but I just can't. I think the other team was TF because we were trying to test the sounds when we came across this. I know it was with Dogbones and FreeBeer, maybe others. My carrier was 3kish from their op. Free would leave the op in an int (not sure if it was heavy), and I would instantly get a "carrier at risk," but I could not see anything from F3. I would rip in with a fighter or a scout (we did this multiple times), and would sit wherever I ripped in, waiting for him to be seen. (Interestingly, I could also hear his boosters/engine getting closer to me).

So, while sitting in that sector, I could see him on the mini-map, got a red flash on that sector in the mini-map, and I could hear his engines getting louder and louder (I think someone told me you can often hear engines even when the enemy can't be seen, but I've never noticed this).

One time I know I could hear him getting closer and closer, was really confused as to why I couldn't see him, when - almost instantaneously - I heard gunfire/pod before I could even move (he snuck up from behind). /ninja.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ninja:" border="0" alt="ninja.gif" /> I eyed him as soon as he started firing (would've been 300m - 400m), but it was too late. Mind you, I was less than 50m from my carrier. FreeBeer reported he had eye as soon as he left the op, and had eye the whole way to me. But I obviously couldn't see him unless my own ship saw him.

So that gives one of the factions, some of the ships, and an idea of the ranges. Next time I'm on a test of FAZ, I'll try to be more thorough in testing this. Since we were testing the sound, this wasn't a priority, and I forgot until now. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

We specifically tested this the other night. Each of us sent carriers toward the other then we hopped in ships. We could not reproduce this 'error'. Every time we heard the 'carrier at risk' message the enemy ship was also spotted. We could even get it to 'flash' by firing weapons, getting spotted, getting the carrier at risk message, then dropping off (when we stopped firing) only to repeat it when we started firing again.

We tried with TechnoFlux and IC I think (or maybe the other faction was Belts or Dreg), I cannot remember /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

I've also kept an eye out for this in other games, I've not seen it before or since. We tried it with regular and enhanced carriers on DN.
