whoops... sorry... meant the RoC... My firefox tabs got mixed up.
10. You will not upload or transmit , in Free Allegiance or on the Free Allegiance website, any copyrighted content that you do not own all rights to, unless you have the express written permission of the author or copyright holder.
if that's 100% true then technicaly, YouTube vids, Official screenshots, etc

Let me try to get this straight. Anything that's publicly viewable, is ok? but calling it your own is not.

Can somebody clear this up? I don't wanna screw up

P.S. it also says that we are not allowed to modify the game in any way. that probably includes reticules... but it's not true! we are allowed to mod reticules. not just reticules... but practically everything! and we do! (But the ToS says we can!)

we need the RoC updated.

CopyRight Laws™ That is our main concern.

You can mod some files, not all. Those files are protected by ASGS. What is and is not is an ongoing work by the Dev team. It is handled case by case. Read the dev forums.

Good catch. I don't have access to the freeallegiance.org hosting, so I'll forward the problem to Thalgor.

I'm pretty sure linking doesn't count as uploading. Or maybe it does, but I find that highly unlikely.

Just think of the whole mess of it as a CYA policy. Dont' do anything nuttly like steal the artwork and try and pass it as your own, sell it, etc, and all should be well. It's all just free advertising for us anyway.

Our community has operated in a grey area for many years until Microsoft gave us their sourcecode to play around with. Since then it's been much more above-board, but there are still a few small aspects that tread into a legal grey area.

The main reason for the TOS (this is my interpretation, not Thalgor's) is to prohibit anything that will bring our community "into the limelight" and make us stand out like a sore thumb to anyone who would want to sue us.

Read the TOS in that light, and you'll see that things like linking to pirated files == a nono.

Hope that helps clarify,
