but when you're dreg in an int and you see a scout fly past you at 142 mps, might as well catch it

uh.. how often do you see dreg vs. dreg? And even if you are in a dreg int against a dreg scout, it would take quite a bit of fuel to catch up especially if you are going the other direction ( hense fly past you) and turn around to face that ship. and you know boost after a scout is bad, right? /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

in fact "interceptors" are craft designed to "intercept" other crafts, this means approaching, evening vectors and killing. i think an interceptor that can´t kill a scout would not be himself.

cuz interceptors also have feelings, like you

evincar, you should try the situation (s)he described yourself to see if it makes any sense with the name "interceptors" or not.

I guess I didn't make myself clear enough:

From the situation Vio described, I'm assuming that the scout is flying past you, which means you musten't been boosting and might be going the other direction (if the scout was approaching directly behind you and went straight in front you to the exact direction you are heading /unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> , it's a different story). Your ship need to cut the accel to the direction you were traveling, start at 0 mps at the new direction and boost to gain speed. That's what I mean by you can't really catch up in few seconds.

And if you want to catch up, the fastest way is to boost directly behind it. And that is not pleasent in most cases (prox). so you'll need to go a bit off from the direction he's going, which will take even more time /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

it is very easy to make a fast vector change, if you thrust opposite to your moving vector you will make it change very fast, at the max afterburner accel, and if you are decent you will start pointing your nose at the direction the scout is flying, and start boosting slowly before he gets to you, to make him go just a bit further than you. this way you spend little fuel (still like half a bottle on a regular case against dreg scouts, probably a whole bottle against heavies), start shooting asap he is in range, you are immune to proxmines, and practically everything a scout can do.

interceptors are deadly if they can see their prey

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.

exactly my point /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

P.S. Evin, you just ran into my prox 20 minutes ago on beta in an int so don't try it /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I think I am one of the lucky ones to have only gotten hit by prox twice. rarely do i fly right behind someone unless im .1-4 k from my victim

If you've only been hit by prox twice that's not because your lucky, that's because you haven't played more than a few seconds.
