do you realize how maneuverable GS's are?
firstly you make the gun mounts spread out, don;t make em a single beam... *cough dreg ships cough*
secondly if a GS manages to get it's ass to face you when you are attacking it... you should be screwed,
thats why I'm saying you try either 4 gatling guns or 4 weapons of a new type. the new frontal weapon system would be defensive by nature. it's a pretty simple concept too. easily implementable as proof of rixian Stingers. make an AOE or not weapon very fast rate of fire ( will need testing) and a small damage.
this isn;t to boost my ego but it would literally create a barrage of fire. mulitple ships could take damage in brawls but not enough to make it viable to go alone as a GS. the pilot's job is to provide guidances and support not whore the world by himself and have the turrets take care of the fodder on the sides. The turrets are the strength of the GS not the pilot.
Some issues to be discussed
yes pretty damn manuverable as I'm sure youd agreeBarrager wrote:QUOTE (Barrager @ Jul 12 2007, 10:16 AM) do you realize how maneuverable GS's are?
BUT as you note earlier...they are so damn manuverable its not like its hard to turn them and own whatever is facing youBarrager wrote:QUOTE (Barrager @ Jul 12 2007, 10:16 AM) secondly if a GS manages to get it's ass to face you when you are attacking it... you should be screwed,
I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

My apologies.
Exactly what has changed with skycaps (I've picked up on faster projectile speed, is it rotation that was upped or ROF (I didn't really notice the ROF being all that different but it's been a while) to make them suddenly so fearful? I wouldn't suggest changing their turret options (even in the "finger of God" skycap days GS were still not all that popular) though, if skycaps are excessive on GS than they should be even more excessive on caps. Some of the other perks GS have picked up over the years might be good to drop, perhaps starting with going back to the same forward guns as bombers and possibly removing/reducing the missile load (though, that'd be "step 2"). The gunners will still be dangerous, but if you're going to tie 3 or 4 people up in one group you should get a good return (generally, a GS standing off an aleph should be a bit less effective than 3 enh's sitting at the aleph but a bit less susceptible to rushes (ints will still whack all sorts of stuff but figs shouldn't be able to rush a GS as well as they'd other figs) and should indeed be a bomb run's second-worst non-cap nightmare).
Pilot-mounted AC-class weapons have always caused problems though (rixy GS when it first came out, for example), so I'd be all for having them go away if they've spread to everyone's GSs (even the Lt ACs), the gunship pilot is more of a chauffeur than anything... your main concern should be positioning, not killing stuff.
Anyway, if skycaps are back to being too good, look at skycaps, not ships which have carried 'em forever.

Mostly being the keyword here. The other reason they're popular is normally useless players suddenly become useful when they're in a turret slot. Which means getting them in a pug is a viable strategy, though normally getting adv tech is the better choice.Narg wrote:QUOTE (Narg @ Aug 9 2007, 07:57 PM) It's mostly bios GS that have become popular. Any other faction gives up alot to get them.
Also 90% of players have no idea of how to combat them. IE charging them one at a time with enh tech. Which means said useless players buildup a KB and become a real threat to the opposition.
So in conclusion it isn't that skycaps or gunships have got that much better that they used to be. It's that players have got worse, making easy-to-use tech comparatively more powerful.
Leave gunships as they are and allow people to learn how to kill them.
Leave my little bundles of KB alone.
Yeah, Imo, GS are weak and even with bios are a bad idea. GS just force people to stick together and that's why they're so strong.
I also really like the weak player theory. Imo, 4 bios light ints can be much more dangerous than a bios GS with 1 nan, it's just that the team with GS will have its newbies jump on the GS and be usefull instead of getting in an int and fly 3 jumps away just to get podded in the enemy home sector.

Just played a game TF vs. Nix. TF got Adv Figs with Gat 3 Hvy Plas Gen 2 Small Shield 2 Boost 3 and every GA they could find and Nix got Vanguards and owned them.
The way Nix seems to work right now is if you get Vanguards you get to whore the other team until they lose. Regardless of what the opposing team has. Small ships that mount AC are ridiculous.

Will nan for food.
