Can't you disable the ultimate stuff? Aero can be easily disabled (I did that) for example.

Actually i don't need most of the ultimate's staff, so if i turn all those off it's going to be almost the same as Home Premium maybe even Home Basic except it's $200 more I can spend elsewhere.

angela, dont do it. I"ve been working on vista at my work for a bit here, and had nothing but troubles.

IF XP works fine for you, DONT UPGRADE. Vista is NOT worth the fancy features, and you probably wont get much out of the User Access Control.

and Vista Capable, does NOT mean vista ready.

my minimum suggestions for ANY vista, let alone one with the Aerodyne GUI is:

dual core processer
128MB DEDICATED video card
1.5GB+ of ram

seriously, go spend the that $200 on better ram or stuff. dont waste it on vista

I have Vista Business on an older 13.3" Sony Vaio. I have a 1.83MHz Pentium-M single core, 1 gig ram, and an Nvidia GeForce Go 6400 with 64mb dedicated, and up to turbocache up to 128mb.

Vista runs slightly faster than XP. No slowdown at all with all features turned on (good to note its faster even though I run XP in classic with all features turned off). It's considerably faster at startup, especially returning from hibernation. I just don't like Vista so use XP.

I agree with what AEM said about vista starting up faster, but if you spend the time on your XP build you can get similar results. btw, thats a pretty nice PC there AEM, which model is it?

PsycHosis, if you read my post, I said I will upgrade RAM this weekend to 2G+ and my comp currently meet every thing you just said. I might actually go get 4G RAM for faster response time. And I already have Vista at hand so i don't need to waste money on it. I actually spent a lot of money on my comp with all the upgrade etc. and I actually believe my comp can run Vista with no problem. It's just that I've seen a lot of problem with Vista with certain softwares so Im looking at if ALLEG is Vista Capable.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll consider all the replies, likely not going to upgrade consider how this went.

OK, a lot of rubbish posted here, so I better post in caps to sound louder than the Vista haters.

VISTA HOME PREMIUM AND ALLEGIANCE WORKED FINE WITHOUT A HITCH FOR ME.

Also, no problems in general with Vista with anything for me (except some really old peripherals but I'd expect that). 1GB is fine - more if you're playing modern games. I mainly play allegiance, Civ IV and such like so I don't need any more atm.

Just because it works for you does not mean that we posted rubbish. You were lucky unlike many others in the helpline.

QUOTE And Vista Home Premium will NOT work with Alleg in most (if not all) cases. Vista Business or above is required.
QUOTE I"ve been working on vista at my work for a bit here, and had nothing but troubles.
(OK not rubbish in itself but adds to the weight of negative vibes and doesn't mention installing alleg at all, so is purely a vista-bash)

QUOTE You can run alleg with vista but it won't work if you have any antivirus other than AVG.
/huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />
