I Really Hate The New FAZ Release 2
My pleasure! If it wasn't me, it would've been one of the others. Just so happened I was familiar with that section of code.Shizoku wrote:QUOTE (Shizoku @ Aug 5 2006, 02:44 PM) Thanks stain rat!
In my opinion, this has always been the best argument for keeping the defaults the way they currently are. Newer community members probably don't realize changing their wing settings potentially changes the amount of on-screen information they receive. The person who wants drone spam is much more likely to know where the option for it is than the person overwhelmed by the amount of data they're receiving.Tigereye wrote:QUOTE (Tigereye @ Aug 5 2006, 01:00 PM) It's easy enough for us skilled veterans to choose "Command" wing.
It's a persistent inconvenience for the vets but I think the added accessibility for newer members makes up for it.

I'm wondering if it wouldn't be possible (read: easy to do) to make the wing assignment a default setting on the client side. This way a player can elect to be on Command wing as his default wing whenever he joins a game. This should give you the flexibility to not overwhelm the inexperienced, while not having to regularly inconvenience the experienced.
Nothing wrong with R2, imo, but stuff I'd like to see for R3:
Make the minimap enlarged by default.
Have Radar Mode set to All by default.
When you right click on a sector to chat to it, have the chat box go back to the team channel after you are done.
Have 'Attack my target', 'Need a pick up', 'I've gotchya, hold still' broadcast only to the current sector, unless otherwise specfied.
Sometimes 'I've gotcha, hold still' sound effect plays, but no command pops up nor anything in team chat. I've talked to people and I'm not the only one experiencing it. I think it happens when someone uses ~LQ instead of ~CS. Please fix this.
Imo, one of the hardest things about using the chat channels effectively is the time it takes switching between channels. It would be great if their were two different keys a user presses to chat, one which works like the current one does, and a second which talks to wing channel only.

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.

just a suggstion, what if you made it so that it remembers the last wing you used? the default wing is then only used once, and you only have to set it to command wing once (unless you use other wings) then it wouldnt clutter the settings menu, and still make everyone happy (except people who change wing a lot, but i dont know if anyone does)
[sig]This post may contain nuts![/sig]
Not really an 'I hate post' but a response to some of the above
I'd like to see
-Default wing
-Default mini-map setting
-Default radar mode
-(and possibly a few others)
all be read from registry keys so advanced users can change them. Ideally they would also be added to the <esc> menu so you could set them without knowing how to use 'regedit'.
I was in the default wing to 'command' camp as well, but it is trivial for advanced users to change it and not so trivital for new players so I was fine with it defaulting to alpha again. (Beta provided good feedback here).
As far as click selecting a player for PM, I was able to unclick (deselect) by clicking anywhere in the large blue/yellow regions.
New feature requests should probably go in a different thread. This thread is best kept to R2 specific changes.
