Launch animation is screwed up in R2!
your argument about it being optional is like an argument saying popups are optional because if you don't want to read them you just have to click the X every time one comes up.
i want popups gone (change removed) or give me a popup blocker.
or more accurately, your argument is like popups are optional, if you want to view a page without popups, you just have to press alt or crtl or num-0 every time you click a link
now please read the rest of my post and answer my other questions
why introduce this now, when you could introduce it with num-0 toggle control enabled during launch ani - it would have prevented souch bitching
doesn't the senate have to vote on gameplay changes.

You obvously have no idea what 'gameplay' consists of.madpeople wrote:QUOTE (madpeople @ Aug 2 2006, 01:17 PM) doesn't the senate have to vote on gameplay changes.

There was a lot of discussion, the sentate did weigh in (to some degree but there was not vote on this).
This was NOT a stealth change, it was on beta for months.
The squeaky wheel gets the oil, this post should have been in the beta forum and then stressed, and then brought to your senators attention if you feel like you were not heard.
Your points are well taken, so were many others.
We did not disable the VJ toggle (numpad 0) on launch animation, it was always like that, allowing it during the animation is a very good idea, an idea stressed TOO LATE
-Enjoy the other changes.
-Enjoy the ability to turn towards sbs and HTTs (and yes you can see them (not all the time) on launch).
-If you are THAT worried about those 2 seconds, get a joystick or develope a pattern to remember to toggle VJ
-Or just live with it until the next release (likely 3 to 6 months away).

Bucket, /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> not trying to get all offensive on you just saying that for some it may be different. I may not have played for very long /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> but when I used to I primarily used the joystick and was quite used to being able to adjust my ship during launch. I learned to be aware of what is going on in the background and move to it. We didn't have any mini maps, and I still don't never even looked up the alternative UI's or anything yet. Switched to mouse and Nostromo when I returned and now that I have this ability back again it feels like old times. I also toggle VJ on and off quite often so this change to my habbit is easy as its readily available to me on my nostromo. For you this may not be the case so I can understand and see your side of it.
Bottom line there should be a compromise for all to make everyone's gameplay more enjoyable. That is probably the implimentation of allowing the user to toggle VJ on and off during the launch animation, or some status of the VJ mode while in the station, like a red light on a wall etc... Also maybe a setting within allegiance that you can choose if you want VJ on or off on launch from base.
The options will probably require some time and testing, so basically it requires some patience on our part as the dev's are doing the best they can to keep evolving this game.
Now with the bomber, if your launching to D a bomber you should be doing two things, 90% of the time, launching with enough notice to get to an aleph to camp, at that time the 2 seconds of the animation that enables you to click on an aleph in your UI won't make much difference. Or if your re-launching or late to the party, whether from lack of situational awareness of the bomber or lack of probes or just whatever, and the bomber is already in your sector chances are its playing bumber cars with your base, hence why I said I would be turning toward the base looking for the bomber pilot strafing around the base to avoid defence. But then not all bomber pilots are that smart.
of course there will always be exceptions.
I do agree that there should be an option, just saying some players may like this change.

Dont worry bucket, one day youll become a good player and figure out how to use "turning during launch" to its advantage. I used to stop HTT's on a daily basis back when I had a stick, but when it broke, I discoverd the mouse users plight in not being able to turn. Oh the horror of trying to stop an HTT after youve flown away from base for 2 extra seconds...

this dam sure changes my game play.Your_Persona wrote:QUOTE (Your_Persona @ Aug 2 2006, 08:45 PM) You obvously have no idea what 'gameplay' consists of.
if it changes game play, it is a game play change.
i did post this on several occasions, and got the same response from TE that i got here. largely along the lines of, use it, get used to it, were not changing it.Dogbones wrote:QUOTE (Dogbones @ Aug 2 2006, 09:09 PM) There was a lot of discussion, the sentate did weigh in (to some degree but there was not vote on this).

i didn't feel i needed to get my senator involved, why should i need to use someone elses mouth to speak?
QUOTE We did not disable the VJ toggle (numpad 0) on launch animation, it was always like that,
by enabeling it by default, you have effectivly disabled the previous method
QUOTE allowing it during the animation is a very good idea, an idea stressed TOO LATE
i complained about this A LONG TIME AGO, as soon as it was first introduced in to testing i complained.
provided they didn't get pruned with the chaff (they were quite old, cant remember the cut off point for the pruning), my complaints should still be on the old forums
QUOTE -Enjoy the other changes.
you cant instruct people to enjoy things
QUOTE -Enjoy the ability to turn towards sbs and HTTs (and yes you can see them (not all the time) on launch).
i could do that anyway, choosing alephs that pointed me in the general direction
QUOTE -If you are THAT worried about those 2 seconds, get a joystick or develope a pattern to remember to toggle VJ
1. i am not spending money on a different flight system when i am very satisfied with the track record of my current one.
also, num-0 is too far from f8 for me to physically move my hand to get to it before i have launched.
you clearly have no idea how fast i change bases some times. the screen has barely loaded after pressing f8, clicking the sector and i have clicked the launch door
QUOTE -Or just live with it until the next release (likely 3 to 6 months away).
this looks like what we are going to have to do, but its not going to stop us complaining.
anyone want to start a campaign for a faz 2.5 interim release
Mad I won't reply directly to all of your points, as some are valid and some are not.
Suffice it to say there are differing opinions, Viscur is a good example.
To be pedantic about things I can say what I like, as in, "Have a nice day" or "Enjoy the sunshine", if you choose to do so (or take such a comment as an 'instruct'ion) or not.
I will say we will do our best to address this issue. Whatever you (and others) did in the past it obviously was not as effective as the current post. I cannot recall if we talked about enabling num 0 or not and if it slipped between the cracks or not.
Try not to sweat the 2 seconds for a few months.
