So does one inform MS, hoping the resulting drama results in a popularity surge?
Or is informing MS like ramming a con -- it's the right thing to do, but it's suicide?
June 2007 Extreme PC Magazine with Alleg Disk
lol @ srStain_Rat wrote:QUOTE (Stain_Rat @ May 11 2007, 10:24 PM) I have a subscription to Maximum PC. I'll start scanning last years issues for inclusion in R4. You guys want PDF or JPEG?
(does anybody even get these "lol @ sr" posts? There is an inside joke here that I think I may be the only person in on)

So let me get this straight, some of you are complaining about a magazine giving away free advertising for allegiance? Weren't some of you comptenplating buying advertising? Normally the demos included on these cds pay money to the magazine in order to get on there. Either way no one can charge anything for allegiance beside microsoft.
No you could charge money to remove the spyware that you slipped into the install file, but thats another matter, just include your disclosure in the read me that is 15000 pages long!
Don't forget the checkbox! lol

we are mostly concerned that ms may come and beat people up and we may get hurt.
free advertising is good /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
would have been polite if they had asked us before using our client, i doubt we would have said no if it didn't violate the licence.
now... why aren't there several thousand people online right now? (i guess they are slow at installing?)

Maybe if we consider how many people get maximum PC...then how many of them actually install the free CDs....then how many of them play games....then how many of them like the genre...etc..madpeople wrote:QUOTE (madpeople @ May 12 2007, 06:07 AM) now... why aren't there several thousand people online right now? Maybe at the end of the day, there just won't be a huge flux of people wanting to play.

I found a copy of the magazine with the CD... bought it, but have yet to take it out of the wrapper. I'll probably try installing it on another machine that I have here, and I'll report any issues that I encounter. I can put up the file(s) from the CD on a web page for others to download if there is interest and assuming no violation of some arcane redistribution rule is involved.
