I don't think I've heard of any ExtremePC magazine...plus can't find any mention of it using Google or Yahoo search engines.

My search showed it as a PC Magazine. There was a link to subscribe that took me to PC's page.

I doubt they would be giving away the old version with the source code, its wot 400 - 500 mb of useless data really, u cant use it for anything. My gut tells me they will be distributing Free allegiance, which is 60mb of free online playable game.

Me will investigate /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I'll go buy the thing...prob tomorrow. Maybe it was "Maximum PC". I didn't mean to stir the pot on whether it was a legal issue or not. Just assumed it was legal. Anyway, if it is a differen't name, I'll let you know.

O.K. The mag is MAXIMUM PC not extreme PC. I couldn't find a way to edit the thread title. There is a file under a data folder called Allegiance Setup.exe and is 70,272 KB. That is all I know. I can send anyone a copy if they are interested in the petigree of the file.

Its ours? Is it legal for them to distribute "our" software as a promotional for their mag? Seems like the folks who designed all the things we enjoy should be compensated.

compensated how?

its not our software even if our devs re-wrote everything to get it to compile, allegiance is microsoft's, if anyone gets any money from our allegiance client, its them.

our devs get to see people appreciate their work. but they cant make money from allegiance, that violates the thingy we agreed to to use ms's game

MS's terms state that we (they) can not use the product for any financial gain.
