The voicechat menu.

A Voice Chat is a short message broadcasted over Allegiance. Both a sound file is played and matching text is displayed in the chatbox. These messages range from tactical information, "Bomber waiting for turret gunners", to greetings, "Hey, wassup?", to taunts, "You want a piece of me?".

Some VC also have orders attached to them which are broadcasted to the entire team the same way you'd issue a normal order. For instance:

  • "Attack my target!" has an <attack {current target}> order.
  • "Need repairs" has a <repair {self}> order.
  • "I need help!" has an <attack {nearest enemy}> order.

Sending voice chats

  • The Voice Chat menu can be accessed by pressing the ~ key, then simply hit the keys corresponding to the VC you want to send (in the picture below the combo would be "IA"), or click on it with the mouse.
  • Near the bottom right you can see who the VC is directed to, in this case it is everybody.
    • This cannot be changed while the VC menu is open (for more information on directing messages, play Training Mission 2).

Notice. The key required to send a voice chat actually differs from keymap to keymap; for example, the VC key on an Italian keyboard is 'ò'. The easiest way to check (and if needed change) your VC key is using the Map Key and Controls screen (shortcut: ESC,G,C).

I'm overwhelmed by noise

Voice chats form one of the main ways in which Allegiance players communicate with each other. As such there are plenty of them flying back and forth all the time, giving information, shouting orders, or yelling taunts. Without some experience in why players are sending them you are sure to be confused.

Just try your best. Don't worry about them too much - concentrate on learning the game first. Tune them out, sort of thing. The important ones will get repeated often.

The most important ones will be in bold chat, from the commander.

Why is spamming bad?

Spamming is annoying. It clutters up the chat menu. It can get you banned.

Tips on making a 'cheat list'

There are a lot of VC, and the menus and submenus can be a bit of a bog to find anything in. As you gain experience and play more you will find the ones which you use most often and learn them by heart, but in the meantime it really pays to make a list of the most useful Voice Chats and their corresponding key combo, and keep this nearby when you play as reference.

Voice Chat combos

Many players use multiple voice chats in quick succession to tell a complicated message. For instance a scout (Eyes_on_you) that ranges ahead of a bomber (Nuke_Shooter) to check an aleph might say:

Eyes_on_you(team bomber):Is the aleph mined?
Eyes_on_you(team bomber):Negative!
Eyes_on_you(team bomber):Go Go Go!
Nuke_Shooter (team bomber):Roger
Nuke_Shooter (team bomber):Follow me!
Nuke_Shooter (team bomber):Defend Bomber
Nuke_Shooter (team bomber):Go Go Go!

Which means that the scout hasn't found any minefield on the other side, and everyone should follow him at full speed. The bomber pilot has replied that he has understood, quickly reminded everyone to defend him, and is going in.
