You can proof read it in the preview too so you don't have to edit your edit a minute after submitting it to correct a small mistake.
Summary box
When you have finished editing the page, fill in the summary box with a short note about what you changed, if there is some automatically generated text already in it, leave that in and add your comment after it. The minor edit box adds a m next to your comment in the pages history, tick this box if you didn't change much.
