Error: 'Failed to connect to lobby'

From FreeAllegiance Wiki
Jump to navigationJump to search

This error message is shown when the Allegiance server can't communicate with your computer. It is caused because the necessary ports are not open between your computer and the server, preventing the two from communicating properly.

With R3 Allegiance is able to open ports at your router itself, by using DirectPlay 8. Today most modern third party firewalls (like Symantec, McAffee) don't allow DirectPlay 8 games (like Freelancer and Allegiance) to open ports at your router. Even if you deactivate your firewall temporary, wouldn't make a difference, the game will not connect to lobby.

There is only one known solution for this problem:

  • Uninstall your firewall and replace it with the Windows Firewall.

Still not working?

Company/school/college networks

These kind of networks often block the DirectPlay ports. If you can open a VPN tunnel to somewhere, you may can play through it.
