I was thinking of getting a new, rather cheap laptop.

does alleg run on windows 8 fine?

Windows 8 is actually pretty good... if you can get past having no start menu.

I just use it like Windows 3.1.

Backwards compatibility with DOS based Windows programs is only slightly worse than Windows XP (of course any 16-bit program is going to be unusable).

Actually it appears that the start menu is coming back with the upcoming update. It *blushes* took me more than a few moments to figure out how to shut down my new computer a few months ago.

3.11 was the best. Also no starting menu. :iluv:
