In Savage, people have added the ability for commanders to draw on the mini-map. When the commander has nothing selected, he can use his right-mouse button to draw as he pleases on the mini-map that every player has on his screen. He can even select from an array of colours with a spectrum band selector. This is useful to tell people to go top-left without having to type it in a cluttered chat box and have the message quickly scrolled away. Drawing is basically the same as paint drawing with the pencil tool.
There have been previous talks about giving a special box for the commander to type in messages, more or less replacing the function of the "last order" box (though both could remain).
There can be fear of a commander abusing this and drawing all over his mini-map to make it useless to his pilots. To prevent this, two alternatives:
- The drawing box is entirely separate from the mini-map and becomes its own "terminal" which can be toggled on or off with an F key (god knows we can still spare a few).
- The comm's drawing can be turned on or off with a button on the mini-map similar to the one that now exists to turn on or off the display of sector rock information.
And the direct application to Allegiance:
What do you think?
