P-P-P-Patties! But yeah, I know what you mean.

QUOTE There's always another alternative though, that i had considered once, where rather then giving a free 'starter' ship, you just make a "lt ship" research (short time, low cost) for each ship type. Then you are given the option of getting lt ints for escorting cons, figs for ripping around to carriers or Rix SR's, and even lt sfs, or a 'combination' depending on what kind of strategy you plan to use. The light versions of course are quite underpowered in comparison to enh/adv tech, but can allow for different opening strategies other then one limited to the ship your faction gets at the start, and the ability to retain a lt ship even if your tech is lost.

Or, you could even apply the above but include the free starter ships like normal from the start, and make the other ships optional.[/quote]

I could see this working: "lt" ships are available as researchable garr tech to everyone. Factions still start with figs, ints, or neither.

I'm for removing light ints as a starting ship completely.

The difference between a light int and a basic fig is vast. I've argued this since the day they were implemented through a patch on the AZ. Stupid move.

Fun yes. But for the team with the light ints, not the figs.

It used to be all figs (except for Giga which had the option to purchase patties). Lets get back to that.

As the community core I think we should always consider how newbies and newvoobs see the game. Why is it that IC and Dreg get to have a ship that is 10 times as effective in nearly every way (except rip ability for carriers/rip scouts)?

Giving everybody light ints balances it, but come on. Lets make make starting out less effective, not more effective.

Basic figs for everybody. Reduce their mass or increase their agility/acceleration or both if you need a boost. I'm of the mind to keep them nice and @#(!ty, like a starting tech should be.

Andon wrote:QUOTE (Andon @ Apr 25 2008, 12:39 PM) Basically, you get the Expansion - you research ints. You then have access to ints, and light ints, but light ints are overridden by ints. Light ints, however, do not require the expansion once researched. So if the Expansion is destroyed, they're like bombers - you can still use them (they're just light ints rather than regular ints)
This. It doesn't make sense to be able to research lt* in garr, so not that.

Also, this:

Only DN core allows Rix to rip standard figs and SFs to SR scouts, while all other cores have to wait for EnhFigs... /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Yes, but in other cores, aren't ALL scouts SR scouts (and free!)?

Giving everyone lt ints to start makes me cry. What if I want to rip home? What about belter Fig nans? What about RIX?

This is community core not Square Coreā„¢

Rather than making everyone have ints, basic fighters just need to be a bit more useful. I hate gt fighters fuel, ic light ints have about 50,000,000 times the booster power.

Yes, but only Enh/AdvFigs and Scouts can rip to these scouts...

I wouldn't mind everybody starting with figs. That would actually be pretty interesting.

I like it the way it is. It makes sense: as a baseline, every faction should get a scout and a fig. From there, you nerf some factions (Giga / TF) by taking away the fig, and you perk some factions (IC / Dreg) by substituting a light int. As always, factions will have counternerfs to balance their initial strengths and counterperks to balance their initial weaknesses.

Let me ask this: if you give Giga, TF, Bios, Rix, Belts, Nix, and GT light ints to start out with, what are you going to take away from them to put them back into balance? Or are you saying that IC / Dreg are currently overpowered, that their starting strengths are just too overwhelming for other factions to recover from?
